Champions League revamp

So whats the latest all this. Did jose get sacked for signing it or something I heard

yeah but you can do it after the season, why now... there's no champs league.

so they hate him, and because there's no champs league now, they got rid?

perfect day to do it, fans get mad over ESL and they counter it with “yeah but we sacked the manager you all hate”

This is the big problem IMHO - there is definitely a long term play here for the 14, if they were brave and rode it out. it's reasonable to suggest they would be much better off. But at the end of the day, kick the 6 out and the current TV rights dont get paid as budgeted and the next 3 years of negotiations will be carnage. I think you are asking turkeys to vote for christmas this year, which they simply wont

Alot of the rumbling in the last few hours is suggesting that the superleague is on pretty solid legal grounds because of competition law and the only real punishments in play are removal from domestic leagues. I want to see this happen, it is the only mechanic that will have a true impact, but I dont think there is a chance of it

There's a myriad of punishments, all viable.

Any player who doesn't play in a FIFA sanctioned competition can't represent FIFA sanctioned national teams.

Any club under the dominion of UEFA/FIFA cannot participate in transfers with non-sanctioned clubs.

Any club participating in a non-sanctioned competition cannot participate in any gloabl FIFA/UEFA et al. sanctioned competition.

They do that, that's the end of this. It's over. They can sod off if they want but they're in their own irrelevant bubble, paying mercenaries until the JP Morgan money dries up and they realise they're basically the Chinese league all over again.

That reads as very safe. They've tried to say they are against it without being outright against it.

They will want the option to be a broadcaster if this goes ahead.

The reality is BT, SKY will all pay into it and I dont blame them - providing they keep a TV Deal with the Premier League / CL + EL even if reduced clubs will just have the reduce their budgets and wage bills.

Providing the owners are committed to us long term that wouldnt be an issue and long term rich owners will still buy into English football and the wealth and demand would slowly grow again over time but this time we could be at the top of the summit.

Short term pain for long term gain imo.

def agree with that, though the rumors now...

i want to hear from jose and carlo, especially since both of them worked at big clubs.

Absolutely. They will have briefing their pundits very thoroughly in the coming days to not say anything in air that might come back to bite them on the arse in the near future. For Sky, Neville has made his thoughts crystal clear, yet I still wouldn't be surprised to see him as the face of Sky Super League coverage if it happens. It's all about money, after all.

The leagues have the power on this, it's just whether they have the bottle to use it. There will be a short term, severe financial hit, sure, but ultimately other clubs will fill the void within 4-5 years, because new teams will get the share of the ECL pie.

All it would mean is a much needed financial reset which will slow down football eating itself, which is what was gradually happening and the Super League is the ultimate symptom of it.

If the Premier League and all the others understand that not taking drastic measures is substantially worse than allowing this to go ahead in any way shape or form, then what they need to do is very obvious - they need to revoke the eligibility of all these clubs to play in all existing competitions immediately, ban their players from representing their nations, and give a deadline to drop the entire thing before they are permanently excluded from football. It's the only way.

I wholeheartedly agree.

However, the consequences may drive some of the remaining 14 clubs into administration, and they may not be prepared to fight back as a result.

This is what I think the breakaway clubs are counting on.

There are ways for the Prem to play some dirty pool in response. The most obvious is to suspend the points deduction for administration, or to effectively do that by suspending relegation and promoting clubs upward to fill the void with appropriate timing.

It seems fairly clear that UEFA and the domestic leagues can hang together or hang separately. What is not clear is the resources they can muster to bring to the fight.

Has it occurred to anyone else that one of the three open slots may be reserved for whoever finks on the vote to kick the six clubs out? They only need one vote.

Growing speculation US banks & clubs driving this. Changes are needed but SuperLeague idea is not it. I also do not believe Laporta can include Barca without it being voted on by club members
What is thoughts of the Barcelona fans over this?

before the league cup final as well...

so I doubt its Jose walking because of the Super League just before the final.
