Champions League revamp

Would take some joined up thinking, but even without the super duper top 6, the PL brand is still a strong one. Globally. £10pm to watch any/all games say, 50m subscribers, globally, whats that? £5 Billion a month? (Maths aint my strong point).
I'm not sure it is. I don't think too many people are getting up in the middle of the night to watch Norwich play Brighton if i'm honest. Part of the appeal of the PL is that all the other clubs play the big boys and might just turn them over. Take away that possibility and it changes the entire product.

How would that, in any way, replace the money from the current set up?!
I'm sorry, has it upset you? That wasn't my intention, do forgive me.
Maybe if you re-read my post it might not hurt so bad, saying as it does, 'one option'. I didn't think it would be taken as a complete replacement theory or be deemed to be invested with the full working knowledge of football finance.
But, thanks ;)

Oliver Dowden, the sports minister, speaking in the House of Commons “Football is in our national DNA...I was appalled by the announcement made last night. It’s a tone-deaf proposal that goes against the spirit of the game. We will not stand by and let this happen.’ A small handful of owners want to create a closed shop. I believe passionately in our national institutions. They form solidarity across the generations. Now we will not hesitate to protect one of those national institutions, football. This will fall to the football authorities first, but if they can’t, we will. We will put everything on the table. They have put money before fans.”

That's my point though, glory hunters need glory, if Spurs and Arsenal are never finishing above 8th in that league they will not be attracting said hunters.
My spurs supporting mate knows this and is against it for this among all the other valid reasons.

Mourinho has already phoned up journos telling them Levy is the one who demanded Bale. He clearly wanted some star player brand value to get interest before this ESL. It will be interesting to see how they do attracting a manager with the taint of this on them now.

What about me asking a question implied that I was upset you utter barmpot?

It does, but that change - making it a more even contest, would probably improve it. The RS, United and City have immense global fanbases but that is because (a) they were in the PL and (b) they were winning things. Both of those things change with the SL.

But there are options to replace that with other revenue streams, PPV is one option that's obvious.

Did you see the viewing figures from some of the free to air games during the pandemic? There’s no nice way to speak about some clubs, but if the model moves to one where clubs negotiate their own tv deals or the matches are PPV there is no way these clubs will generate as much income as they currently do.

A general TV deal is necessary to ensure everyone has a fair slice of the pie. I’m pretty sure that pie will be much smaller but still edible. Other measures such as salary caps would probably have to come into place to ensure the stability and future of the game.

It may not be as glamorous but sustainability needs to be the current priority for the 14.

Has tax ever stopped the wealthy?
Well if they lose a chunk of the up front payment, it would hurt.
Its the other point that is interesting, the visa crackdown. Seems to be suggesting work permits may become a little bit more difficult for the 6 to obtain.

Dowden thinks this is about franchising English clubs as well, then.
