Depending on who cooks itGiven the rhetoric, and what UEFA have said, and the PL put out earlier, I'd be amazed if they let 6 clubs, who will.have hundreds of millions more, continue to play.
You can never say never, but I'd be amazed.
It would be akin to your spouse saying they are shagging your mate, but what to come over for Sunday lunch and to have their washing done. If you have ounce of self respect, or sense, you just say no.
I would be very surprised if talks dont happen to boot them out.
The other curveball is Sky/Bt. They have formed a rival competition, on a rival network. They will play their kids in the PL. Theres no way they will have it.
I've sat in meetings, and I'm not half as smart as these execs, but it's so obvious that you cannot allow them to stay. You're only play is to react in kind. You might not win, but at least you have a chance.
If the threat of them losing PL status us put there, maybe some re consider. That's your only play.
It does, but that change - making it a more even contest, would probably improve it. The RS, United and City have immense global fanbases but that is because (a) they were in the PL and (b) they were winning things. Both of those things change with the SL.
If they're being given £300m every year they cannot be allowed to participate in the Premier League, it craps on sporting integrity.
BIN THEM ALL OFF, any player who plays for them is banned from any FIFA or UEFA regulated competition, for perpetuity. Hopefully Competing in the World Cup still means something to most players,
Any pandering to them and they will win, come down hard from the beginning and this will be a non-starter.
Oliver Dowden, the sports minister, speaking in the House of Commons “Football is in our national DNA...I was appalled by the announcement made last night. It’s a tone-deaf proposal that goes against the spirit of the game. We will not stand by and let this happen.’ A small handful of owners want to create a closed shop. I believe passionately in our national institutions. They form solidarity across the generations. Now we will not hesitate to protect one of those national institutions, football. This will fall to the football authorities first, but if they can’t, we will. We will put everything on the table. They have put money before fans.”
Your use of exclamation, you tit. What about me asking a question implied that I was upset you utter barmpot?
Good. I’m sure they know how disgusting their club is without looking in here. Most reds I know in real life are mortified by this. This thread is gonna become a kopite homing beacon eventually.
It’s a sure-fire vote winner for the government if they stop this.Oliver Dowden, the sports minister, speaking in the House of Commons “Football is in our national DNA...I was appalled by the announcement made last night. Well if they lose a chunk of the up front payment, it would hurt.
Its the other point that is interesting, the visa crackdown. Seems to be suggesting work permits may become a little bit more difficult for the 6 to obtain.
I'm not sure it is. I don't think too many people are getting up in the middle of the night to watch Norwich play Brighton if i'm honest. Part of the appeal of the PL is that all the other clubs play the big boys and might just turn them over. Take away that possibility and it changes the entire product.
I agree that a PL with a more even playing field is an appealing prospect for us, but it isn't for the 'fans of the future' that the Superleague clubs are talking about. All this talk about them being surprised at the backlash etc is incredibly naive. They know exactly what they're doing, they know that there is a market for what they're proposing, and that market will inevitably eat quite substantially into the current PL market. Of course it doesn't mean that the whole thing has to go kaput, but the idea that Norwich are going to be able to replace £50m a year in global TV rights by making their games PPV is...well... let's call it ambitious. It does, but that change - making it a more even contest, would probably improve it.
