Champions League revamp

Even though I hate what they stand for, I don’t agree.

It’s not fair on their club histories, the players and supporters that have gone before this current lot for over a century.

Football clubs are part of the national fabric. I’d prefer they were given massive fans, points deductions and a large dose of reality that finally bursts this bubble of greed and brings fairness back to football.
Fair point - its just a shame there’ll be no appetite, from those with the power to sanction them with that level of severity.

The only way a real reckoning will happen is if they go - and fall on their collective arses. Bankrupt their owners and the clubs come back and start from the bottom.

Danish FA boss Jesper Miller claims that players contracts automatically lapse when clubs opt out of UEFA tournaments.
He is advising players to join loyal clubs so that they can play in the Euros this summer.

It's interesting, because contracts revolve around players being 'registered' to clubs.

If the clubs are no longer sanctioned, technically the players are no longer registered because they haven't signed contracts for a different competition. It's why free agents can sign outside transfer windows as they are unregistered, so can register whenever, whereas others can only move at pre-selected times.

So, in theory, every player at these Super League clubs, if the clubs are 'deregistered', would have to sign new contracts with their clubs in relation to the Super League, but would be free to move to another UEFA-sanctioned club because the players are 'deregistered'.

Whether that'd hold up in court... pfft. Dunno.

He can't speak on behalf of other clubs obviously, but his message was very clear - if you can tell me the parts where he said they'd bend over I'm all ears. All I heard was a token "we'll see what happens" when talking of if there was any way back, but nothing else; he had to say that.

As it stands, it was crystal clear what he was saying - if they go ahead, they're toast.
‘We’d obviously welcome them back. No one wants to lose them’.

He also said all the clubs (still in) the champions lge and Europa cup who signed up the super league will be expelled by Friday

Yeah but look at la Liga, la Liga is a market where Barça and Real get a lions share of the TV revenue, something like the remaining 13 teams get 20% of the TV money, and what do you get?

Boring, uninspiring football

Fully understand that they get the most viewers, but the reality is, the big 6 are a big part of the league and why it’s the best league in the world, but so are the other 14.
Norwich Beat Man City, Watford beat Liverpool, West Brom Beat Chelsea 5-2... it’s the best league in the season and when you start favouring other teams... you’ll get a diluted, less enjoyable product.

But yes, I’m full expecting some pressure from the big boys to the lesser teams of the division, your Burnley’s, Watford’s etc... to vote it through and use their stature to get more TV money.

The fans don’t want it, the proper match going, domestic fans do not want this, and why would they?

It’s a reward for your suffering and hard work getting Barcelona in the Champions League, winning a final... when you’re guaranteed, why would you even bother?

Bottom team in la liga 23 points, bottom team premier league 14 points and played a game more.
Im sure not sure why people are so deluded about the quality of the Premier league

....if that’s true, the bigger implication of this is that all players with ESL clubs can leave on a Bosman if they don’t sign new deals.

sorry if we've had this before, but lol:

Overstretching yourself chasing greater glory and revenue is not new, Leeds being a prime example of spending beyond their means and suffering for it.

These clubs are basically saying 'we can't stay at the top and that's completely unfair for us, but we're so important everyone else will be damaged because of us.

‘We’d obviously welcome them back. No one wants to lose them’.

Erm... yes? Of course, financially the clubs would prefer them not to go. It'd be a lie to say otherwise.

But if they have no choice, they have no choice. He made it abundantly clear throughout that interview what the score was. The status quo is the best option (because it is, although there will be repercussions now), but he said plainly they've 'overplayed their hand' and 'united everyone' of the 14 clubs against them.

If they go ahead with this, the 14 will kick them out/go their own way. There's limited scope for compromise here because of what they've done in regards to UEFA and how devalued the EPL would be as a result.

He's basically saying they have time to back down, but they need to be quick about it.

How does burning a kit from years ago with Carlsberg on the front and probably Torres on the back send any sort of message to the money men in America though? I mean I do fully expect them to backlash massively (if it's one thing they love it's a protest) but you know at least burn this seasons shirt like. Tramps.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if a trophy is awarded after every single game to create 'drama' for dead rubbers.

"Neither side can qualify for the knockout stage but stay tuned to see who the Double Choc Chip Ice Cream Champions will be!"
It'll be like WWF when it merged with wcw.
WWF champion, world champion, intercontinental champion, United States champion, European champion, TV champion, hardcore champion, people's champion
