Champions League revamp

I also found it amusing that Carragher tried to throw us under the bus for pushing for a Premier League

Regardless of whether the morals were somewhat shady, it literally was done with the purpose of rebuilding English football after it was on its knees and gave teams a hope... Blackpool, Barnsley, Reading, Hull teams who in the last 30 years have been in the lower ranks of the football league, a chance (a slim one) of Champions League qualification.

Imagine if we franchised it, and stopped Huddersfield, Leeds, Sheffield United having a crack at the top flight, sides who have historically competed.

Yet he somehow tried to deflect blame from Liverpool’s owner pushing for franchises by throwing Everton out as a team pushing for the Premier League.

So let me get this right...he's saying that football will collapse if the big teams don't buy the best players? And cos they've lost money, they can't buy them anymore?

Yep. The game can only exist if I have all the money and buy the best players in the world and win all the trophies....

That's prime Ronald Reaganism there. Big corporations and trickle-down economics of world football.
It's exactly that and always has been. Even doing the original CL changes. The rich have the right to be rich always and what trickles down is what everyone else deserves.

There are rules saying they cant play in unsanctioned tournaments, as yet they havent.

But the club's can agree that if they do, they'll be expelled. Would that need a vote? Or just a general agreement.

It puts the ball back in their court to then finally see if they pull the trigger with the league.

Im not saying keep them, but they bring around 70% of the leagues revenue.

Which means Everton would have to operate at around 30% of its current levels.

Thats a LOT of pay cuts like.
This is the worry. The question is whether calling their bluff will cause it to fold. They need the PL as much as we do. They need the revenue.
Alternatively, the government applies pressure and legislates if necessary.

What we seem to be seeing is the revenue lost during COVID finally catching up. These clubs are massively Indebted.

I suspect some sort of compromise will be reached, but it should extract a huge slice of flesh from those clubs as punishment. Some sort of mechanism that prevents these manoeuvres in future.

Uefa are against it, Fifa are against it, governments are against it, FA are against it, PL are against it, Fans are against it, pundits are against it, every club bar the twelve rat clubs are against it, this will not happen. Way too much opposition.

I just don’t see FIFA sticking with their stance.

considering they wanted to have a “World Club” every 4 years which was like a World Cup, I’d imagine this will completely suit their prerogative, especially if they can get 2-3 weeks in certain venues almost like a World Cup.

The "interesting" thing about transfers isn't what they will be in the future, it's the ones they already have lashed out and have payments on. We probably still owe Watford about 20m on Richarlison. Think of players who moved for big money and how that payment is going to be fixed but revenue collapses.

The one thing we have over the supa dupa league is authenticity which you cant buy. Im not arsed if James Rodriguez left or if we cant pay Benard 100k a week to sit on our bench - this about having hopes of one day seeing us win league title number 10 or play CL football without even more unfair hurdles in our way.

We need 14 lions in that board meeting tomorrow with innovative plans to keep the brand strong post media darling 6 - not 14 sheep who will appease that lot and burn any chances of future success in order to keep the PL gravy train rolling.

If we appease them now they will ask for more more more and it will never end.
