Champions League revamp

They won't be kicked out.

If anything the Premier League and UEFA will be behind the scenes trying to make them happy.

It's a power grab, and it will probably work.
Yep. Always a threat of a breakaway league of some description and then they come back to the table and get increased power. Will probably happen again.

[*]Ban the 12 until the clubs are sold

Ban these men, and their issue, from FIFA, UEFA and all sanctioned competitions in perpetuity. You don't have to punish their fans forever...but these men can never have anything to do with the game ever again. In the case of the Spanish clubs, force them to clean house and call elections if they want back in.

They are this century's Black Sox, and should be treated as such. To be honest, making them take the haircut on what is effectively a forced sale, or banning them in perpetuity from any influence on club politics, is the cruelest thing you can do to them. It's poetic justice.

Your other ideas regarding UEFA competition are good ones. It should be fairly easy to get the remaining players to level the playing field for a fresh start.

I think the government will have a part in this.

UK plc needs to protect its football industry.

It’s been signed, so I think it has to be stopped with legislation.

This, I think, is where we’re headed.

Legislation, if it’s carefully worded enough, makes it possible to prevent this kind of breakaway league ever being legal.

Starting to look like we are relying on the government to stop this. I wonder if that was considered in their war gaming

They probably assumed a Tory government would just side with the rich business men, forgetting what a great vote winner it would be for any ruling government who could stop this. Boris is definitely one for vote grabbing and populist policies (only really helps put rich people if friends, colleagues or relatives).

We should let these clubs go but never let them back in. Nature abhors a vacuum and the fan interest (and TV revenue) would just switch to the remaining clubs in the league. These clubs are just like the spoilt brats when i was a kid. back then not everyone owned a football (cue images of Four Yorkshire men sketch). Sometimes it was the spoilt brat who did and he would demand that the rules of any footy played would favour him or he would go home and take his ball with him. The premier League should do what we did then.........tell him to bugger off, we'll go and play British Bulldog!

One of the very few advantages to having a shameless popularity-chasing PM is that occasionally popular opinion gets it right.

Parish said last night they need to understand what is it they REALLY want. If it's something completely impossible to change or amend and that they're dead set on doing it then there's little options but to punish them.

Bring back Cup replays, like the old days, play until there is a winner. Watching the scum play four games a week for a couple of months in the Winter would be hilarious

It doesn’t matter if the motivation is to win votes if they are able to deliver what we want here.

I believe he means that he expects a lot of empty rhetoric out of the government with little in the way of concrete action to back it up.

I suppose the question is whether or not Johnson is capable of playing this hand to his benefit, or if he's merely an empty suit. There's ample evidence for both sides on that.
