Champions League revamp

I hope John Henry stands on every upturned plug in his house.

Am a lifelong Red Sox fan, as well as all the other Boston teams. Didn't follow the premier league until we finally got it on NBC for Martinez' first season.

Red Sox went 86 years without a title before a manager (from my Alma Mater) guided them to 2004 and 2007 wins. He was fired unceremoniously with dispersion cast his way after the team underperformed on his watch. Not a "thanks for all you accomplished, but it's time to go in another direction." Said all sorts of shady stuff about Tito Francona to the point he only attended the 100th Anniversary celebration of Fenway Park because the entire fanbase united in urging him to attend and give a big middle finger to Henry and the rest of upper management. He got the loudest cheer of anyone. Thunderous limbs.

Fast forward to 2013 and I went to an FC Tucson match where a Blue, Mark (English transplant in Tucson) introduced me to a legit Liverpudian Red who also transplanted to AZ. He asked me why as a Red Sox fan I didn't follow Liverpool.

Seeing his vehement disapproval (even if canonizing Henderson for his anti-ESL post AFTER it already started falling apart), he now knows exactly why I veered away from that horrid side when the 2013-2014 campaign was on the horizon and I wanted to find a home.

Why all of a sudden are owners like Henry getting detached from the clubs they own? You’re in it together! The fans manager players should deal with the consequences. They’re all attached to the club the brand and what it stands for. The same goes for us and every other club. No one was saying boo about the owners when he was bankrolling deals for the likes of VVD Alisson Keita Jota Salah for a combined figure of about a quarter of billion quid. Which effectively bought them the league and CL
The fans managers and players have to suck up what’s coming to them like the clubs mentioned above. You’re in it together through the good and bad times right? Isn’t that what their song is about #YNWA

But this has been in the works for months/years and based on pleasing those bigger clubs. It was the bigger clubs forcing this change through (whilst simultaneously trying to leave). Now, just like the PL, UEFA have seen the empty threat and no longer need to appease these clubs. With the clubs not in the ECA for the moment we'll definitely see a power shift toward the likes of Ajax/Roma/Valencia/PSG/Bayern/Dortmund etc
The change to the Champions League that UEFA voted through on Monday accepts the view that certain clubs deserve Champions League football more than others do. This is one of the fundamental things that the 12 ESL clubs were after. There is nothing to stop UEFA from rescinding these changes immediately, especially given that the same 12 clubs will benefit most from these changes. Why reward them for a rebellion? I would be amazed if UEFA did anything, though. They will carry on as before and rake in the money.

If they were actually that arsed about it then you would have heard it from them before this week.

They were all happy with FSG buying expensive players and a new stand.

Where were the shouts for 50+1 from these ex LFC players when they were winning the league?

Now because they're fuming with their owners again they're turning this into an all of football issue. They didn't care about all of football and other bad owners a month ago.
All valid criticism and it's absolutely right. John Barnes was defending FSG for their use of the furlough scheme, on the basis that 'they're a company like any other'

But I think he has a point on this - just different levels of self interest eating one another.

What difference would that make?

Their fans showed up to Elland road to protest their too. They still shat it and didn't put the t shirts on and waited another day until it was sorted for Captain Fantastic to put his tweet out.
The fans I’m talking about. They would’ve wanted to do what the Chelsea fans did last night.

They thrive on attention

This all strikes me as a very self-serving distraction from both the broadcasters and these clubs.

The other pyramid teams should be outraged and demanding punishments. The entire blame is on the owners now and nobody wants to talk of punishing the clubs.

Strikes me as naive to think that wasn't a back up PR strategy if this blew up.
