Champions League revamp

There will be no sanctions or just token sanctions and this issue will rear it's head again in 12 months it's far from over.
The other 14 should start clandestine meetings now so as to be better prepared for the next onslaught. It should be written into the rules now that any club deciding to join another league will automatically be disqualified from the premier league without any option to rejoin.

Yep they need to be forced to sign something better worded than the L9 rule stating that this will never happen again. If it does they face expulsion from the The PL and EFL - make it watertight as this sounds like a temporary pause

Problem is, they'll seed the English team in a way that hands the Liverpool's and United comfortable Groups to qualify from, and screws the Leicester's and Everton's if and when they qualify...
we saw what happened when we the 5th Premier league team in it...

That would happen under the current rules as well, if Everton qualify for the champions league we have no individual Coefficient, we only have Premier league coefficient, so we would be a 2nd seeded team, not a first seeded team in a draw.

The new format from 2024 is really different though, because there are 36 teams in one group and every team plays 5 home and 5 away games. They haven't said how those games are picked though. I would imagine the highest seeded teams will play against the lowest ranked to give the highest seeded teams the best chance of being in the top 8 for qualifying to the latter stages.

The thing with this format is that it is replicated for Europa League and Europa Conference, so there will be 7 teams each year from the Prem that have 4 more fixtures to play, when will they be played? This is why Liverpool and Man Utd wanted to reduce the league to 18 teams and scrap the league cup, to get space in the calendar

This for example.

He knows this is a lie. He must do.

Top players are available at the maximum possible plausible price. The clubs dictate that price. If Dortmund say "£500m" and people don't think he's worth that, so be it - that's how valuation literally works.

If all the top clubs are so skint (hint, they're not, but let's go with it) that they can't afford to get Haaland for, say, £150m, then he'd go for whatever value they could afford.

If the Super League happened, all that would mean is Haaland's value would double overnight.

It's a nonsense argument. Anyone with half a brain can see through it. So he's either insane, or trying Trumpian tactics... badly.

Things must be quite bad for Real if he is doubling down on something nobody but him and the couple of remaining clubs want

I think it shows how bad things are. I dont think he is double down, I think he is looking to screw the 9 who have left for cash.

He may well have a case as well

They'll try it again. Dead soon.

Wait wot mate?

OK, so in general having money already makes it easier to make money. However, in professional sports you spend money to glory hunt. Commit to spending too much, and your house of cards collapses. Don't spend enough or spend it unwisely, and you perform poorly, your fan base dwindles, the trap door opens and down the pyramid you go.

The natural order of things is that the teams at the top are redlining the finances to stay there. This is equally true of the American model.

That's the game. You don't like it? No one's making you play it.

Of course he's crazy.

But do you think he's lying about binding contracts being signed ?
Or he's mistaken and they wont try this again ?

Oh they definitely signed binding contracts, but for a dead project. He's lost no money. He hasn't invested in anything, so while their may be some sort of financial penalty in the contract, any half decent solicitor would get it laughed out. It lasted 48 hours and was disbanded by mutual consent by 3/4 of their founders.

They'll definitely try it again if they aren't smashed into the ground, both in terms of punishment and legislation. They'll do it through the backdoor - another gaming example; they didn't raise the price above £60 from the 90s because they couldn't get away with it, consumers bit back... so they introduced paid DLC, expansion passes, battle passes, "standard editions" and so on so they could milk the consumer by stealth instead.

If they aren't punished, that will happen. The breakaway league won't happen, but they'll pressure again because money talks and they'll reform/control the Champions League instead inside 5-10 years. The co-efficient is already the start of that.

It was literally announced today that Real are signing Alaba. The man is truly mad
