2024/25 David Moyes

Just been given a warning for my Dementia post. Ridiculous as that is because it was only a joke. I said it before, old man says Moyes is a good appointment, I say does he have Dementia? Because it is a stupid and desperate appointment.

But I digress. What I did find most amusing was this statement that was copy and pasted from the GOT manual to my inbox.

"GrandOldTeam prides itself on offering Everton fans a place for intelligent and respectful debate about the issues that matter to them, offering a feature-rich, intelligent and moderated forum for our readers to share their own personal views on all things Everton FC"

Intelligent, Respectful, Feature-Rich????

I hope you've never had to deal with a family member with dementia. It's a horrible disease and not something to joke about.

TBH mate, if (BIG IF) they had a long term Plan A for June ( i.e. go for Frank, Iraola or whoever) I'd be a bit surprised and concerned if Dyche jibbing it made them change that plan in it's entirety.

Surely, they had a few names in the back of their head.

They proved to take strange decisions at Roma, like the de Rossi situation. Extended him till 2027 after a bad run during the summer break to bin him 4 games later into the new season.

For my common sense it's stupid and illogical in the same time then to give someone like Moyes a 2,5 years contract being a manager, not a 6 months and then going to the board contract, which would also have been a possibility to just bin him. We don't have money to throw around.

In relative terms it could be seen as a success, depends on your barometer i guess. From the mess he inherited, to what he left us with, someone else posted somewhere else about the nr of players bought, spend and so on in comparative terms to other teams in the same period which only highlights it even more.

No, he didn't win a trophy, he came close, but from what he inherited to what he left, were almost worlds apart. To see you scoff at this and blithely almost dismiss it is frankly ridiculous.

Whatever you think of him and supposed glass ceilings etc. he left us in a good position. We then appointed an imbecile and it quickly descended into a mess, not helped by owners, interference and a total lack of understanding how to run a football club.
He left us bettered than he found us. That's not success though.

I agree with the sentiment of your post - about standards. But, to be fair, if equating not winning pots to success makes Moyes "not one of us" or inauthentic, then a lot of our fanbase - particularly the younger ones - are similarly guilty of that crime.

That's through no fault of theirs. It's the result of Kenwright Culture - the 30 years of managed decline that equates plucky survival, sentimentality, and nostalgia with Evertonianism. And it's why an uncomfortable amount of fans have celebrated the return of the Moyesiah.

Until that culture is purged, we are doomed to plucky mediocrity. "But it's better than Dyche!" I hear them counter. Of course - but that's not the bar by which our future should be measured. We should be measuring against the 1980s, 1960s, and 1930s. When we were kings.
I agree with that. There's a generational difference.

I think if you've seen Everton be the best (at home and in Europe) you dont count some mush getting an average 7th place finish for the time he was here as being a successful Everton manager.
