2023/24 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

They literally booed him and only him. It wasn’t the team that got booed at the end of a game. So it was definitely personal.

It was solely DCL because he was coming off with an injury. An injury he got by being fully committed and going for the ball.

It was pathetic from the fans. And is a very different scenario to being booed off as a team after several crap performances.

2-0 down away from home after half an hour and a player who is always injured gets injured again. We don't live in a world where that player gets a standing ovation. Not when the club is literally lurching from one crisis to the next.

Think this issue is being blown out of proportion. DCL said nothing that wasn't true and he was fairly pragmatic about the whole thing. It wasn't said in a confrontational way as far as I interpreted it.

Our fans are great, and extremely loyal. But the booing of him at Villa when he got a fractured cheekbone was embarrassing. Both are true, but it's done and in the past.

Doesnt exist anymore. Headlines and click bait sell.
Im not arsed. But as stated. It very rarely ends well. The lad seems quite chilled about it. And he wont be under the same microscope now with Beto here.

So he gets booed for fracturing his cheekbone after committing to a 50/50 challenge? He would have got grief for not going for it and people questioning his commitment.

No one is suggesting a standing ovation. A dumb exaggeration there.

The booing by that section of fans was pathetic and unnecessary as it was targeted at him. He had every right to call that section of fans out.

I blame the club for putting too much on Calvert-Lewin - if we signed a number 9 years ago rather than expecting him to stay fit, then the frustration from fans doesn't boil over.

Beto will do him the world of good.
What Newcastle did. Having two number 9s, meaning Wilson can be rotated in and out. And now they have 2 strikers who are staying fit and scoring lots of goals.

Quite clearly, the away fans didn't know he'd fractured his cheekbone.

If DCL stays fit, performs on the pitch and helps keep us in the PL I could not care less what he says or does off the pitch

He had a very visible facial injury??? How is that in keeping with his usual strains/tears.

Ah ok, so when a player goes down injured and then has to get medical support on and then clearly needs to be subbed off we boo them now? On the off chance that them, the medical team and the manager are lying that they injured?

He didn't go off straight away.

No way the fans knew he'd fractured his cheekbone - the club didn't initially either otherwise he'd have gone straight off.

The point is you're saying "So he gets booed for fracturing his cheekbone after committing to a 50/50 challenge?" and I'm saying fans obviously didn't know he'd fractured his cheekbone.

It was a stupid thing to do.

But the team being hammered away from home, following 2 poor seasons, it's not a surprise that fans boo a bit.

I wouldn't boo, but understand some will.
