I still think DCL's all round striker play is top quality. Holding up the ball. Knock ons to the number 10. Movement pretty good. His only downfall is his finishing. Which unfortunately is very important if you're a striker lol

His hold up play is ok … but nowhere near the standard needed to make up for his lack of quality in front of goal.

He’s not doing any better holding up the ball than Carlton Cole, Antonio even Rondon back in his day… very rarely see him have games where he dominates a cb, mis times his jumps constantly and his lay offs after long periods of possession often go out of play or to the opposition .

His heading is like his finishing , he just try’s to head like hitting the target when he ahoits, but like his shooting , there is no quality or direction to them

He’ll probs leave in the summer anyways lads, join a team that plays decent football and plays to his strengths and he’ll score a tonne. We can all boo him when he plays us and call him a ladyboy or something.

What decent team is going to sign an injury prone striker that has worn more skirts than he has scored goals in the last 3 months ?

Playing to his strengths and scoring tonnes?

I take it by strength you mean setting up open goal chances from 5 yards out?

News flash … any striker including maupey would score them chances

Thought he played well tonight but the lack of support must be soul destroying. Turning into a Ferguson scenario where he spends the game jumping for the ball with his back to goal. Our wingers and midfield gave him nothing.

Not having it, yes he can score the odd header and tap in. Even when he hit 16/13 he got like 2 assists in 2yrs never scored from outside the box and missed a number of one on one’s he’s the worst Xg performing forward in the league, maybe not getting the chances he was a few years back but he should be on lot more than 3 goals, same last year I know he was recovering from injury, but he missed some sitters. Fulham 3 yards out, Leicester one on one, just two off the top of my head

Newcastle one when he cheated it down and blazed the ball over without even making the keeper work from about 5 yards out

See, I don't care if he started calling himself Susie. I don't care if he wears skirts, I don't care if he wears a tracksuit. I just want him to score but he doesn't very often at all.

The Maupay point proves the point that the issue is definitely the scarcity of chances created for strikers at EFC.

Anyway, Dom played well tonight.
Spot on my man. So for Everton at present a striker has to do way more than just score goals. They have to work their socks off, its not just a case of goal hanging and knocking the ball in like a Shearer type number 9.
People should get off his back and give the guy our full support. He is the best we are going to have for quite some time!

This thread is farcical... Calvert Lewin is comfortably a mid table level striker and is a valuable asset to our club, and the best we can realistically hope for up top. We've just gone out and spent £30m on a walking foul to prove it.

He is a massive part of a well functioning Dyche side, and will no doubt find his shooting boots imminently.

Gyokeres is being linked with £100m moves 6 months after moving for £20m, so I don’t buy into this idea that we couldn’t find anyone better and that Beto is the benchmark for a £26m player.

….the irony is, Gyrokeres moved to Sporting Lisbon who we then paid £15m for Chermiti. Shrewd business by them, we heavily subsidised the Gyrokeres fee.

Gyokeres would not come to us - same with many 20 mil players or up and coming youths. Its not just a price, but finding players who want to come to us in our present predicament. We are in a very hard position attracting tallent, what are we seeking to them? And thats not Thelwell or Dyche fault its the boards.
Beto was the best we could get for 26mil - he looks OK probably need a string of games and set up to play to his strengths.

Gyokeres played for Coventry City. You’re surely not telling me we couldn’t have bought him instead of Maupay when we did?

Having watched him with my actual eyes 5 times a season and saying he was a perfect Everton striker, I was told £20m wasn’t worth the risk. He was and is a nightmare striker that can also slot with power or finesse, exactly the sort that would have suited a Dyche Everton or any Everton. Crowd favourite easily here.

They are out there.

It is tricky because Hamer also looked brilliant for Cov and is now stinking up Sheffield United.
