He's running his contract down and screwing the club over. Utter disgrace.
It’s tricky. It’s a disaster for the club if there’s a stalemate, but he’s abiding by the terms of a contract the club was happy to give him. People will argue he “owes” us because of his injuries, buts that’s life. Thats football. If he gets badly injured whilst seeing out his contract, he will never get another one as lucrative as what we have probably offered.

However, benching him on the basis of him being scared to put effort in would only damage ourselves. Better to get a loan fee to a club who pays 100% of his wages then it’s not our problem. If we can’t sell him and he won’t sign, someone will loan him.

Not agreeing to the terms of Newcastles contract could be a number of things. Maybe he was told he wouldn’t be a starter, maybe they were offering him less than he’s already on, or maybe he just didn’t get the right feeling from Newcastle.

Or he has a better offer

The athletic reporting dcl could not agree terms with Newcastle not offering him enough, don't think anyone is saying he is preparing to run his contract down
Perhaps not in those words, but that is the inference. He's not signed the contract he's been offered here, he's not agreed a contract with Newcastle who appear to be the only team interested in signing him, so reading between the lines, it suggest that's exactly what he's planning on doing subject to a better offer from us or someone else.
