Thank God for the point.

EFC play rubbish football - Ndaye excepted- enlivened from time to time by a cracker from Dwight.
This team should go to Mass today and thank God that with players like Harrison, Dwight, DCL, Doucoure
and a makeshift defence they got a point.

The best thing about the performance and result is the geordie kopite comments on the guardian match report.

I studied and lived in Newcastle. It's amazing and I visit every year. However the football fans are awful. Tone deaf, lacking levity and almost violently thick. The richest club in the world couldn't beat a poor everton team that played poorly, with Pawson.

Good point in the end and a well needed chuckle at horse punching, reading test failing, crayon eating, orc looking chaps from north wear side.

Was just coming to mention him - AGAIN he totally effs us over, the whole game. It feels to me like the refs this season are worse than ever.

Ref saw Burns getting between DCL and the ball, and DCL accidentally kicked his leg. All technically true unfortunately.

Doesn’t take into account Burns not making any attempt to play the ball, all he was doing was upending DCL and falling on him.
Anywhere else on the pitch, and it's likely given as a foul.

The incident where McNeil received a yellow, which was a fair booking if I'm honest, showed he ignored McNeil repeatedly being fouled before it. He's a terrible ref.

Yeah maybe, but I still stand by it would have been a stupid decision to try and keep him. I've never seen a player down tools like Gordon did when he had his head turned. He was a terrible player in that last 6 months for us. He's got a terrible attitude.

Does seem to have got better since leaving and is looking to be a better player than I expected him to end up, but he still lacks that cutting edge that makes a top player.

I’ve worked up there a lot and the people are great, got a few mates from there. A good night out as well.

I don’t know why their football fans are so weird, they were like that before they got the money too. Acting liked they’ve won all kinds and were massive.

They only started selling out the away allocation at Goodison a few years ago as well.

I’m old enough to remember Keegan’s first season as Newcastle manager. They were regularly getting 12,000-15,000 in St James park, some times as low as 9,000. The Geordies didn’t want to know.

Keegan brought them great success based on outspending they opposition (Blackburn were starting to reduce their expenditure at that point).
They have been over-entitled since then. Their Club as we know it is only 30years old. They are all caught up in the style over substance thing, like West Ham fans generally are. That’s why West Ham binned Sam and Moyles even though they brought more success.

I will never truly understand how a player can be dragged down, 5 yards from the ball, which they were never getting, yet a penalty is awarded. However, when a player is a yard from goal and an opponent tries to tackle them from behind, not winning the ball in the process, and their leg stops an opponent from kicking the ball, this isn’t given. This has happened twice to Dom now this season and twice they were not given.

It’s basically saying you don’t have to play the ball, just stop your opponent playing the ball. You can guarantee one thing, if that was Salah yesterday, it’s 100% given as a penalty.

I think the refs argument might be that DCL committed the first foul with the accidental kick. What came after is irrelevant.
