Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Exactly same my concern regarding dithering Dave.
So he tried everything to land first choice then switched to second choice (that both worked out immensely in terms of fellaini and Cahill) quickly at end of window? What about that is dithering, other than we fans couldn’t see this happening so possibly assumed this to be the case, based on his now widely recognised to be meticulous approach to transfers?

Not trying to pick a fight but just seems damned one way or the other, especially given the wider context of financial constraints etc, which remain true now.

There is a real balance between recruiting for safety and rebuilding for Jan / Summer windows. Hopefully we can get get a natural summer signing early but I suspect it is tricky.

A win on Saturday would help
This, there is a short term need for this window and a BIG rebuild for the summer window- Trying to get that balance must be a nightmare for a new manager with new injuries

If I told you there was an experienced but not old player in Serie A available who has 7 goals and 2 assists in 16 starts (21 apps) what would you say hey?

Apparently we're not close to signing anyone according to the ITKs.

One thing I will say...Moyes will be absolutely fuming if no one is brought in especially given how vocal he's been about the need for bodies.

I think we will be close to one mate, I still think a huge amount depends on if we get a return for Broja back to Chelsea though - reckon the sticking point on that is a mix of money and not wanting to free up the loan spot for a specific player (Ferguson) rather than having to take a Chelsea CM/AM.

Our reluctance to take either Chelsea lad to me suggests we know and feel we will get a player in that position already wearas we aren't sure about getting a striker in outside of a loan.

Think Chelsea may end up just taking the money and waving the player requirement actually but it'll be close to the deadline when they do so (at this point it makes sense to try to maximise what they get from us closer to the end they'll take the profit rather than miss out on basically being paid a few million extra to take him back)

If you could only strengthen one position what would that be?

Moyes has to back himself - short term need now can be someone whose part of that big summer rebuild for the future. Get the right lads in and come next season it's a couple less that you need to adjust to a new team etc.

Interesting to know just how much TFG have said they're willing to back him for in the Summer/Jan though or if it's literally a sum for both added together and he can spend it now or wait etc.

I'd bring in Mcatee to play the number 10 spot mate.
He's the best level we can hope for and the double effects of getting Doucoure out of the starting 11 too.

Also a player you can guarantee will be up for the fight but can long term solve a huge problem area we've had.

Maybe striker is more needed, but simply put can't see us being able to attract much better than Beto right now, so I'd go for the area we can improve the most in.

As good as it would be to have a new player turn up out of the blue I just can’t see it. There’s so many leaks nowadays and people looking to make some cash by selling a story that it’s impossible to keep transfer dealings quiet.

Maybe use a euro loan to bring in a forward & a fast winger.

Dont know if theres anything out there worth it though.

What’s tough on the manager and the recruitment team is before the weekend id have probably said a player who could fill the wide /10 role but now probably a striker . I mean a couple of weeks ago I suspect id have killed for a left back .

At the minute I think a striker
Before the weekend I'd have probably gone with a full back and a winger but because of the DCL injury I'd personally be zeroing in on a forward.

I'd but looking a target man, someone who can hold up and bring people into play.

Hopefully Ndiaye's stays fit and Moyes can squeeze abit more out of Lindstrom, which might take the pressure off in the wide areas but looking at the squad we're paper thin in attacking areas.

Fellaini was because Moyes could t get who he wanted from Liege which was DeFour, basically Felli was a super late decision by Moyes
No Fellaini was the one they always wanted, the late decision was because they hadn't been totally convinced he was ready to step up until he played against Liverpool in Europe literally just a few days before we signed him. Defour we attempted to sign the following season.
