I was going to mention that but decided not to, it smacks of bitterness, but now you've brought it up, yes, it was a major factor, but we should still have been strong enough to have got into Europe the year after, or the year after that. Also, although it's a major source of anger, hate even, between RS and ourselves, you have to blame UEFA for that, not RS as a Club. Every Club has its bad faction of supportes, and the authorities should have made sure RS were brought to account and not us, but it just illustrates the distance between decision makers in the game and those at the grass roots. It's no doubt one of the reasons why there's been such a massive delay in introducing goal line technology too.
wasnt eufa mate it was the govnerment of the time who banned all english clubs

If you can't turn that shower of shiite over you don't deserve to play in the FA cup final. They are ****ing garbage and we're shiit scared of them.

Once again the ****e's manager has easily got the measure of misery guts and his terrible ideas on what constitutes a game of football.

To sum up the game, we had one real chance which was gifted to us. They had alot of chances, our defence looked open and we looked threatened by their pace. We held them as much as possible, but they missed some sitters and good chances - Carrol missed about 3 chances which should have been goals i think?

We were lucky not to lose 4-1. In a way, it would have been better if they had scored some of them chances in the early stages of the match, atleast we would have been fighting for the result rather than just accepting pressure and then hoofing the ball up to Fellaini.

Agree, which is weird as Everton at home is a team that pressure team, fights for everything and threaten teams. How can you lot show them so much respect....they are far from great and once you scored the first, you should have looked for the second and try to win the game. You cant defend 1 goal lead for 60 mins

Thatcher's Government imposed a ban on all English clubs on 31st May 1985, 2 days later on 2nd June EUFA placed an indefinite ban.

Well this what Wiki says....and it's how I remember it too.

"On 31 May, British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher put pressure upon the FA to withdraw English clubs from European competition, and two days later UEFA banned English clubs for "an indeterminate period of time".

It was actually the Football Association that imposed the original ban on 31st May, supported by Thatcher

Composure and Mentality for me. We had the players out there capable of winning the game. I didn't see much if anything wrong with the selection or formation (for the first time in a while).
We were comfortable for the first hour without looking particularly good.

BUT, the difference was coming out for the second half, that's all. We got the team talk and mentality WRONG in the second half. Allowed them to come onto us and had NO outlet to hit them on the break (this is where Pienaar and Drenthe would undoubtedly have helped).

I'm not going to kneejerk into moyes out posts or anything of the like. I am actually VERY happy with the way our squad is shaping up (Pienaar permanently please), and Jelavic really looks the part.

We've come a long way to be angry with a semi-final departure against (let's face it) and almost inferior RS team. Once the anger, hurt and disappointment subsides, let's try to look at how decent a team we actually now have..

Peace out!

Agreed. I will only be furious if this board don't pull their fingers out their arses this summer and get PERMANENT replacements sorted.

Early doors.
