Everton Youth Teams Thread

Reese Welsh looks to be heading out on loan, MK Dons apparently favorite to sign him.

Will that leave us a bit light at CB in the 21’s? Eli Campbell will be the senior CB with Tierney and Jones just moving up from the under 18’s.
Hmm, I’m surprised we’ve gone back to MK Dons when they pulled the plug on his loan deal in January in favour of bringing in an experienced defender on loan from Aberdeen. And they still got relegated.

Yer I was when I read it, they didn’t take up the option to keep the guy from Aberdeen and just sold a good up and coming CB to Swansea so were probably able to guarantee game time, manager clearly likes him if he’s come back in. Dons will have one of the bigger budgets in League 2 so should operating at the top end of the table.

It does seem a division too low for Welch , but he needs game time against men and a bit of filling out so maybe it’ll work out. Despite the criticism he gets I thought Thelwell made good calls on the loans out for our youngsters last year, timings and the clubs worked well and I don’t recall any of them being left in limbo. In terms of minutes played it was probably our best season for our youngsters for a few years.

I wonder if that was more to do with James Vaughan having a positive impact and helping to secure better loans for the youngsters

I’ve always considered Jenson Metcalfe as a better prospect then Barker , a full preseason and I think he’ll kick on again after his injury.

Apter has been the pick of the young midfielders, him and Callum Bates looked good when played together , Jack Patterson too early on but he didn’t seem to kick on as much as the the other two during the season. A few loans in the u21s will open up a crowded midfield for them, and that‘ll be the criteria to judge them by , playing regular u21s as u18s.
Patterson tore an ankle ligament in training early January apparently meaning he only played a few games towards end of season

Quite surprised really, he didnt seem to get THAT much game time.

Maybe one they see as a late developer and they see the ability in training.

He come from the same grass roots team in Bolton as my lad, adnd a couple of others doing well in the non-leagues.

no way he was being released, pretty sure he was injured most of the first half of the season.
