Everton Youth Teams Thread

Wish the best for him and I hope he develops well and enjoys his training. What your U10s look like and what they look like over hear may be vastly different, but at that age the tallest, fastest kids seem to win, regardless of their footballing potential.

Its the same, he is tiny, and it shows against bigger lads. Player need to show a plan b and plan c so to speak, and at 10 very few can do that.

He loves his training, and thats the main thing.

Steve Heighway who was doing a fairly decent job a few years ago at the pit, looking after and bringing through the young lads over there eventually had to spew the job as the emphasis was not placed on youth but paying stupid amounts for mediocre crap that was never likely to progress. There teams at that level where quite successful winning leagues and fa youth cups 06 and 07, steve had to quit the job as there was no interest in progressing the young lads through. They have not really embraced or tried to bring local talent along for many a year, yet every barmpot I work with is (like the echo) raving about this supposingly golden generation that is ready to shine for Klopp as he picks them out. The reality is they are fairly all piss poor and well behind most academy's structures, ourselves and city especially, Southampton too

There was a TV clip a while back featuring theRS Academy and it mentioned Radolfo Borrell then at Liverpool and his background at Barca. Now at City I see. There is something vaguely uncomfortable about hoovering up best talent at this age using your clubs riches. Not all can make it . One big difference of course is that to get into our 1st team you're going to have to displace or stand in for a current international, at City the requirement is to displace a big money CL buy.

I've noticed that a few of our youngsters started off at Liverpool and moved to us at an early age, Anthony Evans is the only one I can remember but there are others. Is this a trend or just usual changing of clubs at an early age.?

i noticed city stole one of our promising u16 players in the summer, ryan corrigan. only signed a 2 yr deal with us in march i think so not sure what happened.

Thanks, I wasn't aware of that , I guess he would have been a 1st year Scholar so did a quick Google check on him. I'm surprised at such a change at that age, I guess money is involved, but you'd have to question any significant benefit for the lad playing wise. Better facilities undoubtedly , but chances for progressing have got to be less. I'm also surprised that this doesn't cause more animosity between the clubs than it warrants, given there is no guarantee he will make it.

Of all their delusion their view of academy football is the most ridiculous. They are miles behind us. At under 18's level we finished 2nd overall last season in the top league and won it the season before. This was with several under 18's not being involved at all as they were playing reserves.
Last season they finished 2nd bottom of the 2nd division, one place above Brighton.

In terms of local talent we are light years ahead. It would be like comparing Manchester City to Blackburn. We hammered them 5-0 at under 18's level last season. We drew 3-3 with the at under 21's, in that game they had 0 players who were under 18 while we had 8 involved.

Essentially to make up for their appalling youth sides they regularly buy in 16/17 year olds for huge sums of money (the equivalent to our entire scouting budget). This allows them to play older lads in the relevant age groups and be competitive where they otherwise would be hammered 5/6-0 every week.

They are also obsessed with winning the under 21's league as if it were a barometer of something. The fact that last season we might have had Galloway, Browning, Garbutt, Lukaku, Barkley all playing in the first team instead of the under 21's would indicate how seriously we take it. But for them it's another tinpot trophy they can add to the list (or not as they still don't win it despite being one of the only teams to try to).

That 3-3 Derby showed everything that was wrong with youth development in this country. Sky sports commentators creaming themselves over 22 year old foreign Liverpool players out muscling 16 year old Everton players to try to win a game of reserve football was embarrassing. The fact that we switched to a 3 at the back formation and blew them away second half was classed as some plucky fight back. Even in the first half we'd been the ones playing from the back whilst Liverpool mirrored their first team just playing on the counter.

How is that supposed to bring through young players with technique and confidence on the ball if all you are doing is training a load of 21/22 year old Spanish lads to harass the opposition in order to win a meaningless trophy and media attention?

The definitive proof lies in the first team. Barkley, Browning and a whole host of others just below the surface whilst they desperately try and make out that Jordan Rossiter is going to have s prem career despite being more limited than Jay Spearing was.

I've never heard of James Graham tbh
The club also have another Everton loanee Russell Griffiths back in goal after he played for England U20s in Germany on Tuesday night, while stand in Louis Gray has returned to Goodison Park after three games for assessment on an injury.

Seagulls vice-chairman Kurtis Chapman said: “I would like to thank Everton Football Club once again for allowing players they believe have very big futures in the game to come out on loan to us. In particular Everton U21s manager David Unsworth and Joe Royle who have both been brilliant in getting the deals through for James, Russ and Louis, and previously Connor Hunt.
“To have contacts with such a great club will only help any incoming manager and we are extremely grateful to them. It was great for Joe Royle to come down to watch us against Skem on Tuesday as well.”

Really proud of our club for the effort we put into building relationships with lower league clubs (Colwyn/Barnsley etc.) and for how much support and work that goes into developing the youth players.
Ya big time mate.we seem to do a bit with blackpool as well which is good to see.was the making of seamie when he went there

I do worry though that this (Colwyn Bay) is quite a low level for our youngsters, I.e. A level below Stockport where Thorniley is. This I guess it is fine for goalkeepers but Graham is a central defender who has played for the Wales age groups you would be hoping that he was capable of better things. On the other hand maybe this is Royle/Unsworth managing expectations for the level they are likely to reach and making sure he gets as good a chance as possible to get a professional career at what ever level. By comparison, Thorniley and Graham are older than Kenny who had a successful loan spell at a club 3 and 4 levels above their respective clubs.
