Everton Youth Teams Thread

We played fluid football throughout, with every member of the side comfortable on the ball. Some of the one-touch stuff in tight spaces was a joy to watch. The Germans were physically the bigger side and were particularly tough at the back but they didn't really have much else to their game. Aside from their goal I can only recall Robles having to make two saves -- one from a speculative 20 yard effort and another, a very good save, from a downward header to his left. Against that we had at least 4 good chances that we should have buried, as well as a missed penalty.

Our back 4 was particularly impressive. Kenny I thought was exceptional. The Schalke left winger was always keen to take him on but Kenny nearly always blocked him out. Going forward he was excellent until tiring in the last 15 minutes. Browning was a mountain, and like lightning in covering and intercepting. Holgate was his usual smooth self (I can't help but think he's wasted at the back since he goes past people so easily and is brilliant passer of the ball). Oviedo got better as the game went on and was still strong at the end.

The midfield showed much more movement off the ball than the first team. I thought Grant was a step ahead of the rest in terms of seeing things early. Good left foot. Ledson was very strong and linked things up well (though was fortunate not to get sent off for an awfully high challenge). Cleverley was clearly nowhere near full fitness. Pienaar was sharp in his twists and turns (still in my eyes a player with something to offer if and when we play in packs rather than the strung out formation we saw against Utd).

It was a very entertaining match. I thoroughly enjoyed it. As I say, we should have won it. I'd recommend anyone to go to the next one.

thanks for that .. who was upfront ? Not one report I've read mentions who played upfront.

We have some great depth in defence and midfield .. now for Martinez to select the right players in the right position playing progressive footie.

... and bring in another forward in the New Year ... or try Mirallas as CF.

Would of thought Rodriguez might of played.

He's over 21 and we already had a team resembling the Post Office queue on a Thursday morning. So no room for any more over 21s.

There's a few others who have not played for a while that could have done with a few mins. Expect to see some of them against Norwich eg Mirallas, Osman, Gibson

Things I took from U21 highlights:

- Ledson got some minutes thank God.
- Holgate looks like another composed centre-half
- Henen looks nice and lively
- None of our players can shoot
Ya was some woeful finishing v ze germans.maybe thats why we have only one win in the league.

Yes, we don't seem to have the same quality of strikers coming through compared to defenders/midfielders at u21s we don't seem to have had a regular goalscorer since Evans had his pre season run. I watched the highlights of the U18 win against Newcastle and that was impressive. Delial Brewster seems to be in fine scoring form. They kicked off, we won the ball back , then back to goalie, pass upfield and he tucked it away nicely with about 8 of our players touching the ball enroute. Proper play from the back stuff, slightly ruined by giving the ball away when next we tried it ,leading to their goal.. Beni Baningime scored a great 2nd with a left foot shot from distance , with. Callum Yates from right back appearing in the box to head in the 3rd,and looking more like a big powerful centre forward than a full back. Match report has appeared previously so just my thoughts from highlights.

Brewster is our best option. He has had some difficult issues with injuries but getting back to his best. Looks like he's really filled out.

I have a sneaky suspicion Evans may end up as a striker too.

I think that could of been the reasoning behind us getting linked with Moussa Dembele of Fulham this summer

Anyone know of anywhere I can see the top scorers in the under 21 & u18s league.
It would be interesting to see what sort of goals tally the best goal scorers tend to get and

that's more a general move in football at the moment. There is less importance on out and out strikers and this is noticeable even more at younger levels

I don't think you can see the top scorers for the U18 league, which is a shame because we're one of the best in that league and it would be interesting to see how our players compare with other players in the league. The U21 top scorers are here:
http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/u21-.../GB21/saison_id/2015/altersklasse/alle/plus/1
And these are the one's from the season before
http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/u21-.../GB21/plus/1?saison_id=2014&altersklasse=alle
Pretty similar numbers to the main league really.

The young Irish lad looked good in the clipse I have seen
Forgotten his name
I think he's only 16 but playing for the 18's
I read somewhere he'd picked up an injury?

Here you go. Often the top scorer is some freakishly strong 18 year old who never makes a career in the game. I remember Leon Clarke (of Wolves at the time) scoring 5 against us once. And sadly the same seems to be true of Hallam Hope, once the others caught up in size he was less effective.
