Everton Youth Teams Thread

Here's a longer version of the U21 mini derby, although it's from their point of view. Good to see the younger players thriving at U21 level though. Also no one seems to know how to pronounce Hewelt's name.

commentator's a tad embarrassing like. Was talking about rossiter like the media always do every time a liverpool youngster comes through to make their debut. They never learn that they put massive pressure on these kids and build them up way above their actual ability. Just look at jordan ibe, you start to feel sorry for these players.

Setting up Harry Wilson for a pretty big fall too. The commentator made a bigger deal out of him smashing the ball over an empty goal than all of Everton's play put together.

Cheers for that lad.really enjoyed that.such a shame we dont get to see regular coverage for our underage lads.

How well did davies do for the last goal.quality play.only other time i seen him play was when he came on as a sub in the reverse fixture and he impressed me then as well and got a good goal.

How good did mcaleny look in that clip.probably coming to the end of his career at everton.shame really because when he is good he is very good but its rarely this happens.

Final note its good to see tim howards influence on our goal keeping is seeping down the ranks the way hewlet flapped at the ball at the end:)

Cheers for that, it was great to see the attempts mentioned on Twitter and the full extent of McAleny's run for the first goal - Everton TVs version is an embarrassment in not giving our youngsters enough credit in the clips shown. They'd have been better taken their clip and omitting the commentary. It was interesting to see that Feeny mainly played as right CH with Holgate playing LCH, as I think he'd played LCH for the u18s. Probably the reason we've bought Foulds a true LCH, to pair him with Feeny as hopefully Holgate moves up.

Ya that seems to be the fustrating thing with conor.when he is in the mood he can be unplayable but its seems to be very rare he is in that mood.another loan spell maybe in january could be make or break for him.

How many times has that been said? From what I've seen he has a big ego, a terrible work rate and not nearly enough talent to merit his ego or make up for his lack of effort.

The 4 things that stood out to me from the mini derby were;

1) How much younger we are then Liverpool. Don't believe a word of the "pub reds" rubbish about playing a young team. Their average age was 20 whereas our teams was 2 years younger at 18. We played 5 players who are eligible for the under 18's (with 1 from the bench) they had zero who fulfilled that category. Alongside that we played 3 lads who are 17 and under again they had zero.

We have essentially put 6 of our strongest under 18's out against their reserves and wiped the floor with them. Think of the damage we'd have done had we played our under 18's against their on Saturday. It would have been another humiliation for them akin to the 5-0 drubbing we served them up recently.

2) Davies is becoming a very talented player. Against Rossiter & Chirevella who have done ok at first team level he looked a cut above. He is really developing nicely as is Williams. I'd rather have those two than the older Chirevella & Rossiter.

3) Evans is rated very highly. He played in the 10 and at times was a cut above. He is keeping Dowell out of Dowells preferred position which takes some going. Very excited about watching him, he has pace and is very direct.

4) Dowell took his goal very well. The little shimmy he does for the goal doesn't get the credit it deserved. It was a fantastic manoeuvre and completely left the Liverpool defender for dead. He has also really grown and looks close to (or above 6 ft now.

Feeney defended bravely. He is still a very slight lad and will need to fill out a bit. It is great testament to our academy though that he was given the chance to play at centre half in such a big game at such a young age. The easy thing to do would be to play him right or left back and use the more experienced Kenny/Connolly at the heart of the defence. I'm pleased they don't put the short term result ahead of the long term development though and allow him to play his natural position.

Connolly is also always impressive. Has a very good knack for getting a goal. While I know lots don't like him McCaleny did very well as well. he is an odd one. he produces performances like that, and like away at Swindon where you think he should be able to go and dominate league 1 or excel in the championship and it has never quite worked out for him on loan.

Anyway a great win really. Not just for the way we played and how we hammered them, but more for the manner we have done so for reasons I have said above. We have a team full of young scousers (8 of the ten outfield players) who are mostly under 18's playing against a reserve team and still trying to emulate the first teams style of play.
