yeh much rather see dowell or evans given a chance, at least they still have a future at the club.

Why because he's 23? Mason and Carroll have been given chances at Spurs when they were that age and look how that's paid off! Footballs evolving and players develop at different ages, just because he's not in the team at 21 doesn't mean he doesn't have a chance of a career. Give the guy a chance and get behind him if he plays. COYB

I think more like he went to charlton and ther fans thought he was useless and hes 23 years old. Its actually bewildering that martinez gave him a 3 year contract.

Him and Junior are not going to make it with us now.

And before that he had a good loan at Cardiff.... If you look at mason for Spurs list of loans not all of them were brilliant either. Anyway I'm not saying he is good enough I'm saying don't write him off before he's given a chance, even if he is 23 as its worked for other clubs, it might work for us, it might not but you never know Untill you try.

Everton Under-18s lost ground in the race for the league title as they lost 1-0 at Manchester City.

The Blues headed to the City Football Academy sitting in second behind the Citizens, but were thwarted by a second-half penalty.

Both Ciaran O’Loughlin and Charlie Albinson had both been called into action as the two sides traded chances in the opening period.

But on 75 minutes, Jack Bainbridge was deemed to have brought down Lukas Nmecha in the box and the City youngster sent O’Loughlin the wrong way from the spot.

Bainbridge almost atoned for conceding the penalty with a late header but it was not to be for the young Toffees.

The match was former Blue’s John Ebbrell’s first game in charge following the latest rotation of Academy coaches and he told evertonfc.com: "We did really well in the first half hour - we did everything we wanted apart from getting a goal.

"There was maximum effort throughout and we tried to force some pressure late on. It was one of those games where we couldn’t get in front. We resisted them to very good effect - that was pleasing.

"The key thing for me in my first game with this group was to work with them and see how they coped under pressure but still doing what we had worked on. There was lots of evidence of that and it was a really committed performance. Even after the penalty we pushed ourselves forward and City were pleased to hear the final whistle.
