Everton Youth Teams Thread

15 months ago I was a big Garbutt fan, maybe he needs Koeman to enhance his defensive qualities. He's got tough completion for that left back spot, Funes Mori played there and acquitted himself well for Argentina in one game last week,Galloway you'd think is also ahead of him and while Connolly is unlikely to provide competition just yet , longer term he's the type of player to convince a manager to release an older player to make way for him.

I have always quite liked Garbutt defensively when I saw him always seemed quite composed on the ball. He seemed to have everything going for him and I am surprised it's not worked out elsewhere. I have to say I think he is a long way ahead of Galloway from what I've seen.

Have to remember back 12 months ago as well when he was out of contract and a lot of people on here for wildly pleading for us to give him a new contract. He feels a little like the forgotten man but personally feel he's better than Oviedo (sell) and Galloway (get him in the middle) at LB and should be back-up to Baines next season.
Yep, exactly what I'd be doing mate.

At LB.

Galloway's a centre-half isn't he? If not, he will be.

I'd rather judge him on his performances for us. He's miles better in a better team. Fulham were pinned down in a relegation fight all season where he won't have been as free to attack and thus didn't play as often. His crossing/dead ball quality hasn't just disappeared.
I disagree, he should be standing out he's 22/23 not 18
Look at the 18yr olds on loan in div2 all got rave reviews, with the odd bit of criticism thrown in.

If he's going to make it at Everton, he should be standing out in the championship

I was impressed with Galloway when he came back from injury playing at centre half for the u21s. I thought he did well at LB when needed There were some interesting stats on him after he'd played about a dozen games , he'd made the most blocks of any player in the PL ( think Howard flapping at crosses if he didn't block them) and had made the most tackles per game of any teenager in Europe. There was some more about the number of tackles he'd had to make, can't remember full details but it left me thinking how exposed we'd left a teenage FB if he was having to make so many tackles.
But yes definitely a good centre back in the making.

Err kind of get your point but feel it's a little bit harder to compare given the clubs they were all loaned to. I would say a Cambridge in League 2 is much easier to impress at than a massive club like Fulham struggling in the Championship irrespective of age. Although Garbutt might be older than them he's not exactly experienced in professional football after two mini FL loans.*

*Forgot he had a full season with Cheltenham didn't he.

I think Galloway's composure on the ball and how he carries himself is very good. He never let his head drop and looks to have a great attitude. I think he will go on to be a very good player for us.

However I think he got exposed a little with his positioning at fullback and sometimes wasn't tight enough. The Stoke game at home in particular springs to mind. He is still a little small to play centre half and not quite as good a footballer and good at reading the game as Stones was so it shows a bit more. I think a loan to a championship team would be perfect for him and I would expect in the 12 months he's away he would be physically ready.

I imagine Garbutt will be quite highly regarded because of his crossing ability. I would Add Cleverley and particularly Lennon to the list as well. If we sign central midfield players I can only see 1 of Besic and Mccarthy surviving and Gibson/Barry may also get fazed out over the next 12 months.

When you see the numbers we have though it illustrates the need for a clear out and not to worry if we lose 10 players this summer.
I think it may take a couple of years for a clear out to happen.
I imagine that our players are well paid compared to the wage level of the clubs that are possibly at their level. We may have to wait for their contracts to run down , as happened this summer with a few.
I have doubts about Garbutt, the loan to Fulham was overall disappointing , I doubt that he would be regarded as next in line to Baines.

I have said this before and I still believe that a lot of our transfer activity may be late in the window. I think the manager will want to look at his squad, but in particular the young lads.
We know there are three or four positions that have to be strengthened but everything else may wait until the squad has been assessed in pre season.

I'd be very surprised if Garbutt isn't in his plans tbh since he's probably the best left sided crosser we have and Koeman loves to utilise that (for example could play the left wing back if we ever tried 3 at the back). Tarashaj no one can tell, we don't know what type of player he is. He'll like Besic because of his bite and versatility. The rest should go though.

I wouldnt be to sad if we got Barry or McCarthy (or both) out the door. If we have aspirations of being sucesful we cannot rely on a 36 year old gareth barry to be our best midfeilder no matter how well he played for us last season
