Getting beaten by lesser teams at home - the wake up call

Spot on.

You look at Fergies Man U team. ( I know footy has changed since then )

Anyone who didn`t put a shift in, would get it on the pitch or in the dressing room from Roy Keane and then on the touchline / dressing room from Fergie.

There was no such thing as lack of effort.
Yeah, you need a core few players who set the standard, lead by example and hold others accountable. But they've got to be credible. Delph thinks he is that player but he just isn't for one reason or another.

Even Moyes had Cahill, Neville and Arteta. I couldn't tell you who sets the tone for this lot out of the senior players. I can imagine Siggurdson trains well and is very professional, but he's inconsistent on the pitch. Great when he's on it, but when he's not he just doesn't seem to inspire. Coleman similar in terms of how he conducts himself, but he's a fading force. Gomes? No. Digne possibly. Allan? Contender, but not been available all the time. Godfrey may in future, but he's developing.

Let’s get this straight. Our home form vs these lesser teams has been terrible this season. Our away form is fantastic though and we always show up against the big boys which is great. However, if we are getting Euro we simply must do better at home against these lot.
Vs Leeds 0-1

Coleman Mina Holgate Godfrey
Doucouré Davies
Richarlison Sigurðsson Bernard
Calvert-Lewin

Vs Newcastle 0-2
4-2-3-1
Pickford
Coleman Mina Keane Digne
Doucouré Sigurðsson
Iwobi James Richarlison
Calvert-Lewin

Vs Fulham 0-2
4-3-1-2
Olsen
Coleman Godfrey Holgate Digne

Sigurðsson (false 9?)
James Richarlison

1.There is no consistency on the selection of the backline. We should stick with the same defensive backline which keep us clean sheets and winning games. Hope we don’t make any changes unless there are injuries.
2. We have been terrible in the first half of these matches but we have been waiting far too long for the players to react. If the tactics isn’t right perhaps we must act quick and amend at half time with subs coming on or else it is far too late to rectify when going behind.
3. These lesser teams come to Goodison, press high with energy and work-rate. The right attitude.
4. Even 2000 fans coming back in the ground will help. Will the team performs like these if Evertonians are at Goodison?
5. There is a lack of fighting spirit in the team during these matches.
6. There is a lack of cutting edge to break through these teams. Everything seems too slow?
7. Too much rotation.

Fixtures remaining against lesser teams at home.
Week 26 Southampton
Week 28 Burnley
Week 30 Crystal Palace
Week 34 Aston Villa
Week 36 Sheff Utd
Week 37 Wolves

We must leave from our mistakes, something must be done to rectify we must win these teams at home no doubt about it. These are the teams we should be beating conformably at home, if we are to get Euro for next season. What’s your call?
Lesser teams eh? asking for it calling them that, tempting fate.
You start from the back and go down the middle
Keeper - Olsen, Pickford; 1 sort of average Vs another sort of average...nothing we can do just yet.
Back 4 - Holgate, Keane, Mina, Godfrey; 'The Wall' works after a fashion, its a bit restricting - but it works, or at least it did.
Then it gets harder
Any 2 from 3; Doucoure, Allen and on current form Davies. Gbamin?? Next season, if then.
Still going down the middle DCL, but he needs players nearer to him and needs to see plenty of ball in the box...easier said than done.
Thats 8 of the 11

Coleman, Digne, Iwobi, Richarlson, King, Gomes, Rodriguez, Siggurdson, Bernard, Nkounkou, Besic?
My point is minimum tinkering play your best 11, be pragmatic...there are no lesser teams.
There's not even any fans in the ground to keep sweet, right now 0-0 Vs Fulham looks a vast improvement.

Ancelotti out, HKtoffee in.

Well not really having at a go at the king really. Just saying if we are getting Euro which seems like the target then the home form against these teams must be improved. Expressing a view does not mean one can be a manager and there will be about a couple of thousands in this forum.

I think the issue is that the players aren't suited to going out and imposing themselves on opponents, hence the positive results coming in games where they're free to sit back, weather storms and look to counter.

Davies has looked a bit more confident on the ball in recent weeks, but this doesn't changed the fact that the midfield is constantly being walked through. They're also far too slow in possession, making them neither an attacking threat nor a competent defensive shield. That's why, for all their limitations, it's better to just have Keane and Mina camped deep, with whoever gets picked in front of them being given licence to run around making a nuisance of themselves as best they can manage.

If Allan could stay fit, it'd bring some much-needed structure to the team, so hopefully he'll cope better if there's a less strenuous fixture schedule next season.

We definitely need more new players who have aggression with quality and work-rate. Please back Carlo with 3 quality signings in the summer. I don’t think we can have James, Siggy and Gomes on the pitch at the same-time. Not enough work-rate nor pace in the middle.

We got good results for a period with the settled back 4 made up of 4 CBs we won 4 and drew 1. Then some rotation started and we've shipped 9 goals in 3 games.

Lerts be honest the home form this year has been dire...
Home.webp

We don't score a lot of goals, we don't keep clean sheets and we see less of the ball than the opposition. At home.

We are far to passive and react to games rather than taking the initiative and it has happened all season, not just last night.

How anybody can defend that is beyond me. You just simply can’t. No amount of excuses can make that defendable.

Other than City everyone is pathetic at home.. weird season.. if any team can solve home form they'll fly up the table.

The most galling thing for me is these teams who have beat us have not had to do anything special.

I keep reading how well Fulham played, did they? I mean they were OK but they were just doing the basics.

They are a mix of Championship players, young talent and loanees, they just wanted it more, not by bombing around everywhere but just by being able to pass to a team mate and being sensible.

The speed in which other teams attack compared to us is ridiculous.
