Hilary Benn Sacked From The Shadow Cabinet - wider political debate

The bottom line to all of this, is can Corbyn win over the centre ground that would be necessary to win an election?

If not, then they're destined for a decade of opposition.

Not really. If you think about it, it's in their interest to big him up and keep him there as long as possible. Every minute he's Labour leader is a gift for the Tories.

Only if you are of the view that he is toxic.

I don't think the press are of that view. I think they know that if he is given a fair crack of the whip then he may prove particularly popular, so it's best for them to keep him down.

Well a lot of those people didn't vote Labour in the last election as they didn't trust them with the economy. Coming out and saying they will borrow £500b to get the economy moving isn't going to inspire confidence as those same voters will think that they have learnt nothing from past mistakes.

I think the difference will be where the £500bn would end up, meself.

I'd rather we borrowed and the moolah went into infrastructure and industry, rather than gidiot telling us we're all in it together while the debt increases year-on-year, and the dough ends up as banker's bonuses.

The letter about there being no money left will be what the Tories will jump on and say that Labour can't be trusted to borrow such sums. It works both ways. Will be hard for labour to win back the floating voters and unless they win some of Scotland back they won't win an election anyway.

Going to be a fascinating few years ahead with Brexit and whether Labour will stop all the infighting and actually provide some real opposition to the government.

The disgusting Hilary Benn is still at it:

Benn criticised Corbyn’s reluctance to support airstrikes against Isis in Iraq. “When people who are fascists – and I use that word deliberately – are committing genocide, as the UN has now said, against Yazidis and other minorities in Iraq and elsewhere, I think it is the duty of an internationalist Labour party to say we are prepared to help against the fascists … We have got to be, and remain, an internationalist, outward-looking party that will play its part,” he said.
