How do we score?

I can't help but think the difference is the attacking approach.

I wonder if Suarez plays in our system, will he score as much? Apart from Suarez, we don't have an inferior team compare to them.
Delboy = sturridge
Coutinho = mirallas
Gerard = Barkley
Our back 4 is certainly stronger.

So how can a team with almost similar quality have such huge difference in number of chances created and scored?

Are we too slow or too obsess with possession and our little short triangles that we neglect other approach to create chances? I'm baffled

It's completely about attacking approach. They have space when they attack because they don't wait for the opposition to get everyone behind the ball before they start their attacks.

We created about four decent openings in the first fifteen minutes today mate. The problem is they fell to Osman and not a clinical finisher.

I got to the pub 10 mins late so I missed those chances, but we didn't create much in the rest of the game.

We still looked more likely to win it more than Spurs mate. Played the better football and had the most shots so we created better chances than one of the best teams in the division, on their home patch too.

And in form Lukaku and we'd have probably won that.

The footie is fine in my opinion. Better than what was served up before and we've only just started.

Apart from Suarez is the key part. He's been the best player in the league this season.

For me our struggles in the final third stem from us not having a world class player in that area. We've got plenty of good footballers like Pienaar but no one who'll produce something out of nothing consistently. All our rivals (apart from Spurs) have that in abundance.

Unfortunately to have a player who'll unlock a defence or will get you 20+ goals a season you need to spend money we don't have.

I agree that we were the better side, but the only chance I thought we looked likely to score from was when mirallas got greedy. Just hope we get the win against palace, but I'm worried we won't.

We need a bit more mobility in the box in fairness, and players to start looking up a bit more, the latter being a major flaw fir bith kev and ross atm, looks amazing when they let fly and that screamer flies in like but teams have cottoned on to both a bit now, need to start shooting less picking their final ball better and when they do let fly the eont be constantly harried/shots charged down as their havibg to watch for the pass, one twos etc

I feel like we're too slow moving the ball forward, and that our passes aren't getting into effective positions quick enough allowing teams to set up their defense. We don't have them panicking on the backfoot enough imo

We're a full calendar year behind the radical change in the way of playing that Liverpool started to go down with Rodgers. but our players have picked up on the change much quicker than that lot over the park. We've already started the change to moving the ball around quicker since Martinez took over, but, as fans, we need to be a bit more patient and not expect everything to fall into place over the course of a single season.

We need to get the ball in the box more. Look at their goal today....

I'm all for this new approach, but would like to see us mix it up a bit. Two things done my head in today - Mirallas being selfish and not playing Naismith in for a certain one on one with the keeper. The second : Knocking it around in midfield with 45 seconds of stoppage time left.

Whenever we caught them in possession and the chance for a breakaway was there, instead of quickly finding a forward player we'd slow down and wait for them to catch up with us. Pienaar was guilty of that a few times I noticed.

We need more players in the box too, but that's not within their instinct as they're not out and out goalscorers.

Always will be, hasn't got the drive to get away from his man. I've said before that a big problem of our play is how important Pienaar is to it. Neat and tidy footballer but a Silva, Mata, Ozil, Hazard even Coutinhio he is not.

IF we're really serious about improving to become a top 4 side that's the caliber of player he needs replacing with.
