How do we score?

We're a full calendar year behind the radical change in the way of playing that Liverpool started to go down with Rodgers. but our players have picked up on the change much quicker than that lot over the park. We've already started the change to moving the ball around quicker since Martinez took over, but, as fans, we need to be a bit more patient and not expect everything to fall into place over the course of a single season.

Thing is mate whilst in theory what you said is correct, rodgers basically abandoned the swansea phillosophy completely this year, actually did second half last year tbh with the addition of sturridge and coutinho and a switch to a counter attacking with pace idea.

Dont see martinez doing the same as well wed need 40m to get two strikers in and on top someone who can deliver that quick ball to them, fact is will take 2-3 years of slowly trying to get players in who can bring along the passing game whilst adding the cutting edge were missing all on a shoestring budget with little room for errors, some of which imo weve already made with kone and mcgeady

Always will be, hasn't got the drive to get away from his man. I've said before that a big problem of our play is how important Pienaar is to it. Neat and tidy footballer but a Silva, Mata, Ozil, Hazard even Coutinhio he is not.

IF we're really serious about improving to become a top 4 side that's the caliber of player he needs replacing with.

Missed the boat on de bruyne mate, need to ensure we dont and get tadic in this summer, far more incisive than pienaar but has similar qualities elsewhere

We are always 3 bad signings away from sliding down the league. Our model is based on buying players for cheap fees and selling them on at a profit. Puts the manager under tremendous pressure.

At least McGeady is a small fee if he turns out to be average, Kone has been a nightmare considering his injury and age.

We won't be getting anyone that high profile but we do need a quality attacking midfielder in the summer. Until then it should be Mirallas on the left for me and mcgeady on the right. Think pienaar and ossie are getting to the point in their careers that they can't be relied upon to start every week.

I'm hopeful Deulofeu kicks on and makes one of the wide positions his own but given his inexperience that's optimistic on my part.

Early days with McGeady, hopefully he can give us more of a direct threat from the wings.

We need to get someone in our team to train up on delivering quality crosses from set pieces too. Surely Barkley is capable of this?!

Martinez wants to dominate possession, which is fair enough, but the teams who do that well are in perpetual motion and create angles to receive the ball. We're too static at the moment. Players such as Silva are constantly looking to see what is around them and, because they know where they want to play it before they are given the ball, they're able to play fluent one-touch football.

I'm not sure we have the quality to play that way just yet. Barkley, Pienaar and Mirallas are talented but I don't think they really see the bigger picture and I don't think they're able to create space in quite the way that we'd like. It may come with time though.

I admire what Roberto is trying to do but I'd probably marry it with what Everton are traditionally good at. Baines is one of the best crossers of the ball in the world and we have players like Lukaku and Vellios who are capable of getting on the end of them. It might not be that pretty, but we limit ourselves if we don't mix things up a little.

Correct! We don't seem to cross the ball anymore, we try to do it the hard way every time.

I can't help but think the difference is the attacking approach.

I wonder if Suarez plays in our system, will he score as much? Apart from Suarez, we don't have an inferior team compare to them.
Delboy = sturridge
Coutinho = mirallas
Gerard = Barkley
Our back 4 is certainly stronger.

So how can a team with almost similar quality have such huge difference in number of chances created and scored?

Are we too slow or too obsess with possession and our little short triangles that we neglect other approach to create chances? I'm baffled

The difference is in their defensive set up and speed of attack. As soon as they lose the ball, they straight away have 9 players behind the ball allowing the opposition to come into their half with minimal resistance. They pass it around looking for a gap pushing further and further towards their goal, then when they eventually lose the ball, RS play it very quickly to Suarez/Sturridge who attack at pace before the opposition midfielders can get back to help.

We on the other hand don't defend as deep and when we do win the ball, we don't attack with enough pace allowing the opposition to get back into a good defensive position. We then have to pass it around in little triangles looking for a gap. Perhaps the pace of McGeady can help address that?

All Baines and Pienaar do is pass the ball between themselves (with the fancy flicks) and do not cross the ball in. When it is crossed in it finds a defender. Pienaar can pass a ball but is slow when we attack at pace.

When Naismith went off, the game was over, as no one would play in a stricker role. McGeady should of come on for Pienaar.
We need to create goals like the 1st goal we scored against Aston Villa, flick the ball through.

I would like to know what practise they do in training to break teams down, as they do not do it well in games. Against Palace on Wednesday it will be the same, with us having the ball trying to break down a orgainsed defence.

... who attack at pace ....

That's the key. How many times yesterday could we have driven at their defenders but instead chose to pass sideways or delay. Very difficult to organise the defence if you have 3-4 bearing down on you at speed.

The thing I miss about last season Is we used to get the ball down the left with Baines and Pienaar and then we would usually cut the ball back into the box where a few of the players were. This season we seem to focused on slow build up play until we can break the team down but the problem is we don't have the players to open defences up
