I think we will stay up..

After yesterday my opinion has changed. Now I’d be more surprised if we stayed up than went down.
These players just don’t have it in them. The amount of times Pickford caught the ball and wanted to throw it out quickly to get us moving.
Numerous Everton players just walking away from him with their back turned. Nobody wanted the ball.
We won’t stay up with this attitude. To me I think the players have already accepted the fate.

Our form, over a long period of time, shows that we are one of the worst teams in the league. These players aren't turning it on because they can't, they aren't good enough to do it - it's why we are where we are. I've come to the realisation over the last couple of months that the players that I thought were average are just downright appalling and the players who I thought were ok are a bunch of chumps too. Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin, Doucoure, Allan... None of these players are any good when you boil it down and ask yourself - what is he actually good at?

Take Richarlison for example, the lad isn't particularly quick, he can't pass and he can't dribble. And this is supposedly our best player. Calvert-Lewin can't run with the ball and he can't even kick it properly, and apparently we shouldn't take anything less than £70m for him?

The only way we're getting out of this now is if we just edge out the teams who currently occupy the bottom three spots. We must take a minimum of 4 points from Newcastle and Watford now, probably all six to give ourselves the best possible chance. But no matter what system Lampard chooses, no matter what players he selects, against 15 teams in this league we immediately start the game as rank outsiders because of the lack of talent we have. And after spending half a billion quid, you just have to put your hands up and say that the club deserves everything it's getting right now, or rather, isn't getting.

IMO the booing at the end should be making these players man up and want to rub that booing in our faces by actually putting in a performance with passion and fight, I won't hold my breath like.

Thinking about it, on my next job I'm going to ask the clients to come out and cheer and sing my name, that way I'll feel appreciated and not whinge like a little tart.

Flip side too we'd all be better just accepting that there's probably a 1 in 3 chance we could face the drop this season. So a very real chance.

It'll make the weekends easier and maybe allow us to enjoy what time we've left in the Premier League if relegation ends up being the case. The fear is ruining peoples weeks and making the situation worse.

I look at the bulk of the Watford, Norwich, Burnley and Leeds fans etc online and they're all very much "we can stay up here if..." etc etc no ones cry arsing online saying, "we're going down" etc or worrying about their fixtures. Newcastle another good example of that. They just get behind their teams, have belief and no fear if it doesn't work out. I don't reckon any of those teams are better than ours like.

Since October our lot have been telling everyone we're going down and it's now the bulk saying it, understandably so now, but since October? Cmon! The relegation thread in here started Oct 24th!

It's a fear based reaction and it needs to stop. We just need to be adults about it, grow a set and accept that we could go down. If we do we do there's 'F' all we can do about it except get behind the team.

But there probably as much chance that we could stay up. The defeastist fear based mindset is mental. So what if we go down? It's terrible but we'll deal with it. Do we only support Everton if in the Prem? We don't cease to exist if out of the Prem for a season or two. If it happens we just have to accept the reality of the situation. It's like grief. Anger, denial and all that...

What happened after the match today with the booing and chanting at the players, "you're not fit to wear the shirt" isn't going to help one iota either. Just don't go the game if that's how ya feel. These lads don't support the club like us and if we go down they go to another Premier League club so abusing them will probably just make them give up even more, if that's even possible.

I agree with you though, a few weeks and a small run of form changes everything. 5 wins and we most likely stay up or 4 wins and a few draws. Either or. Seems impossible now but it seemed impossible for Newcastle and Watford too.

Edit: Also, even if we manage to stay up, next season isn't going to be any easier imo. Easier just to accept where we are at right now and lose the fear.

I think the fear and anger also comes from this feeling that we 'deserve' to be winning, we are the 4th most successful team in history statistically, and have never been relegated from the PL at least, etc so we are still 'supposed to be' inside the top 4 or 6 teams in the country. Maybe this season will finally put an end to this feeling of privilege and we accept that we are a premier league club only - if we get relegated and bounce back - and not necessarily supposed to get 'back to where we belong at the top of the table'. If we are humble and don't think we should be winning every year, we might enjoy ourselves more.

The fans have played a big part in getting us down there close to being relegated with the campaign against the previous manager...by the same token they can play a big part in keeping us in the PL. Yesterday was a chance lost in that respect. The argument that the players need to give fans somethiong to dhout about forst will get us relegated. As sure as night follows day, because we've all agreed in the past that these players cant do it on their own.

A quiet Goodison yesterday lost us 3 points. Re[eat that another 1 or 2 times and we're relegated.

It's a simple choice to make.

Forget these players, they are a dead loss in tems of standing up for themselves in games and getting momentum. The Goodison crowd has to save us.
People would rather boo and shout at them though mate. Hence my point, if people just accept the situation for what it is and man up about potentially going down then they may find it easier to just try and enjoy the match and get behind the team. Imagine we did go down and you'd spent the last games at Goodison in the Prem booing the players

'i thought we would stay up' - before the Man City game I was hoping for this to help us reach 37 points, a sort of 'safe points total' (see below) . We needed an extra 15 points I thought, but maybe with the others so bad, we might only need 35.
In the middle there, I was hoping for a run of 6 games unbeaten.
** = really tough and unrealistic but can't see where else points are coming from.

  • Man City - home L good result that we didn't get battered.
  • Spurs - away L got battered in this one instead
  • Wolves - home D / Actual result L

Update: we're -1 on my hopeful plan. 36 should still do it but we still need a 5 match unbeaten run in my opinion as these are the 'easier' games, and somehow we need to get D's against worse teams than Wolves.

  • Newcastle - home W **
  • Watford - away D**
  • West Ham - away D**
  • Man U - home D
  • Palace - home W **

Imagine if 5 points out of the last 7 games still keeps us safe. Wow. But that's all I think we can get.

  • RS - away L
  • Chelsea - home D**
  • Leicester - away L
  • Brentford - home W
  • Arsenal - away L
  • Burnley - away L
  • Leicester - home D

But who's gonna score goals for us? Who is our leader on the pitch who can pick us up? who can boss the midfield to help us scrap and fight, and then shout inspiration to our players? This is the main problem - lack of leaders, and we need them desperately in a relegation fight.
