Jonjoe Kenny

Not every player in the squad will start every week. The squad will need players who can accept being part of a squad, getting some games through injury or suspensions .
Kenny could be such a player , will not be hugely expensive and allow the club to concentrate it's limited finances in areas that far worse than left and right back.
At left back we have Mykolenko, Godfrey and maybe Nkonkou(although I feel he will be released)
At right back we have Coleman, Patterson and Holgate can cover there as well.

Midfield is the area we need to strengthen, both defensively and creatively.

….I really don’t get: “the squad needs players who can accept being part of a squad”. It’s basically saying we need players who are not very good because they’re content being on big bucks and not playing.

JJK is a very ordinary footballer. We need better than him as back-up. He’s a poor defender & offers nothing in the attacking third. Yet you say we should give him a new deal because he’s happy not playing. True right he’s happy being a millionaire and not playing.

if that’s the model for running a competitive team we truly are doomed.

I agree, thought he looked good when he played cameos for us - but not up to the modern Prem right back status the top teams have .....

We need a squad of at least twenty outfield players, probably more. At least two for every outfield position.
We already have a number of players in the squad that are very expensive each week but contribute very little to the team.
It is part of the cost saving plan to get rid of as many of these players as possible bringing down the wages to turnover ratio.

We know at the same time the squad has to be strengthened and we also know that transfer funds will be limited , unless we sell two or three of our more saleable assets.

So, we have to cull the squad and at the same time build it back probably on a shoestring budget.

Lampard obviously like JJ Kenny, he has used him quite a lot since he arrived. The player will not be on huge wages and can cover two positions.
I can see why the manager would choose to keep a cheaper option like this and concentrate his resources for the areas where we are weakest... midfield being the most obvious.

We are simply not going to be able to sign a player that can act as cover for two positions and be prepared to do so at anything near the cost of keeping JJ Kenny.

Of course we need better, where will be get them without blowing holes in a limited budget ?

Coleman is the back-up. Patterson should play. Kenny should go he is not good enough even as a back-up. Look at what he had done against Burnley. Awful.

i would rather get a good left back as back up for Mykolenko than retain Kenny. I mean he might be a decent back up for multiple positions but if Mykolenko would be out long term JJK is not the solution. So a no for me

he's a poor player in a position we already have 2 players in. Coleman is our Captain and Patterson you would hope and assume is Seamus' long term replacement. That makes JJK 3rd choice RB. It a waste of wages and at 25, i would seriously question the lad if he was content to sit on our bench week in week out rather than get out there and try and play first team football somewhere else.

….it suggests to me there isn’t a queue of clubs offering him a deal. Let’s not forget, he’s available for free so if he’s in demand he can negotiate a very decent signing fee and salary.

i’d be surprised if there’s a top flight club in this country interested.

I doubt there's a Championship side interested either. I think he'd be lucky to get above League One.

you're probably right but as of next week that isn't, and shouldn't be Everton's problem.

Exactly! We want players who feel they should be part of the team on the bench and being hungry to get in the starting line-up for the next game
