Jonjoe Kenny

We need a squad of at least twenty outfield players, probably more. At least two for every outfield position.
We already have a number of players in the squad that are very expensive each week but contribute very little to the team.
It is part of the cost saving plan to get rid of as many of these players as possible bringing down the wages to turnover ratio.

We know at the same time the squad has to be strengthened and we also know that transfer funds will be limited , unless we sell two or three of our more saleable assets.

So, we have to cull the squad and at the same time build it back probably on a shoestring budget.

Lampard obviously like JJ Kenny, he has used him quite a lot since he arrived. The player will not be on huge wages and can cover two positions.
I can see why the manager would choose to keep a cheaper option like this and concentrate his resources for the areas where we are weakest... midfield being the most obvious.

We are simply not going to be able to sign a player that can act as cover for two positions and be prepared to do so at anything near the cost of keeping JJ Kenny.

Of course we need better, where will be get them without blowing holes in a limited budget ?

….you say we need two for every position; Patterson/Coleman are contracted at RB, Mykolenko/Nkounkou are contracted at LB. All are superior to Kenny, so why do we need to give him a new deal?

Also, worth factoring in Stanley Mills who the club appear to be transforming into a RB & could be an exciting prospect. He has decent physicality and a bit of his Dad about him, plus he’s a handful in the opposition top third. We also have a very young LB who is already a regular U23 (name escapes me). I already have them ahead of Kenny in terms of effectiveness,

We’ve had enough wasted millstones clinging to the club, we have to learn to ditch them.

Don’t think he’s good enough for where we’d like to be but for where we are, we could do worse. Will do a job (at least defensively) across a few positions, won’t be on a big wage and is a good pro by all accounts.

If Kenny is a starting player for us then we have a problem, but honestly if he gets an extension I won’t wet the bed and will wish him good luck.

I always find this odd. He's MILES better going forward than he is defensively. He can actually cross a ball pretty well, but defensively he's an utter liability. I don't know where this idea comes from that it's the other way round.

Perhaps he just hasn’t had the opportunity to get forward enough for us. I know he was meant to be okay going forward when on loan in the Bundesliga but I’ve not seen much of it here.

What are these few positions? Genuinely?

He's not good going forward, don't get me wrong. It just seems to be an oft repeated thing that he's a steady reliable defender but not good enough going forward when in reality he's reasonable enough on the overlap and as a crosser but a dreadful defender.
