What an utter waste of a wage. Would get nowhere near any other squad in the league and arguably not even good enough for the Championship. But hey, jobs for the boys at Everton.

For people who are against it, what is the preferred alternative? Release him and have even less cover when injuries undoubtedly ravage us? We are skint unless we sell so we won't be buying another right/leftback...nobody standing out in the youth setup so genuinely what are the detractors suggesting?
Personally I just don’t see why we’d need to sign anyone else. We have 2 right backs and 2 left backs and then other players who can fill in if needed. It just seems pointless to me.

Fat enough if the rationale is what you’re saying it is. And I didn’t mention nkounkou because I just don’t see kenny as a viable option at left back. He can fill in there for a game or two in an emergency but if we’re one injury away from him playing 20+ games there we’re in big trouble.
I’m not cheer leading for him to play, I just see him playing a few cup games and occasional league game in an absolute emergency. Same as Bergovic really.

We have so many positions to fill with a limited budget. I would prefer the transfer budget to be spent on actual first team players.

If our academy was functioning, we would ideally look to bring through players from there as reserve backup. Unfortunately it isn’t and that is why Kenny has been offered a contract.

I understand he has offers from Germany. He may actually chose to go there if a first team place is open to him.

Well that’s exactly what I’m saying. Say he’s on £20k a week, we’ve just committed to giving him £3m to play ‘in an absolute emergency’. I have no idea how you can look at that and think it makes good business sense.

Disappointing if we haven’t got anyone coming through the youth team that could fulfil that emergency role. He’s nowhere near good enough - I think he’d struggle in the championship.

Hopefully he’ll take one of them German options up

We know he not good enough, why not just give a kid at chance from the academy and let Kenny salvage his career at another club. The guy must want to PLAY football

I've spent 20 mins scouring Google trying to find this (thinking it might explain this insanity), but as far as I can tell, it applies only to players under 24

There's also no solidarity payment due, because that's calculated on the basis of a transfer fee

In short, it looks like we've offered him a deal because we really want to keep him, and I'm staggered by this

…thanks for clearing that up even if it was the last hope I had.

In the scheme of things this will be seen as just another act of folly.

….Stanley Mills is a converted winger but I really like it when full backs have that pedigree. We know what his Dad was like as an international RB & I’d select young Mills now ahead of Kenny.

Just release him. If he accepts this contract he’s still going to be an Everton player aged 28!!! He’s just really a very poor player and we have a great opportunity to purge the club of this type but it looks like we’re going down the “he’s a good blue” route again. We are cash strapped - his £20k a week can be better employed elsewhere.

I thought Mick Mills was a LB…

;)

And that £20k and give Richy a new contract.
