2018/19 Jordan Pickford

Apart from a couple of games for England he’s spent the majority of his time behind John O Shea Jagielka Williams and Keane. Maybe when we put some centrebacks who are better than Sunday league standard in front of him the clean sheets might come a bit easier. Would also help if some of the back 4 had a brain and didn’t try and give away a penalty in every game.

But Burnley defences - even those containing the veritable shambles that is Michael Keane - can become better than the sum of their parts. Pickford could and should be the foundation on which the defence is built, but no matter the permutations, he still concedes a lot of goals.

Jagielka, Baines, Coleman, Keane, even rot like Williams have all played in a solid defence at some stage in their careers - the first three for several seasons. Pickford - by coincidence or by contribution - never has.

Make of that what you will.

What your not taking into account mate , is that Jagielka, Williams and Baines HAVE all played in a solid defence i.e. past tense. They are all well past their best. Bit harsh to put that at Pickford's door.

I am taking it into account mate - but don't you think it's all a bit convenient? What about his England record? We only really played two good sides.

England were solid enough to get to the semi finals with him between the sticks mate.

When Joel was keeping cleansheets the season before, it was supposedly down to the same solid defence and despite of Joel. At the same time, Pickford was making his reputation on a few great saves as his team still conceded 60+ goals on way to fighting relegation.

Jump forward a year, and Pickford was somehow enhancing his reputation based on a few great saves as his team still conceded 60+ goals. Under 2 extremely negative, defensive coaches I should add.

You can't take 1 persons achievement and deminish it because of 1 factor, and then apply the opposite reasoning to defend someone else's poor performance, it's unreasonable and illogical.

????

What on earth has that got to do with him conceding a significant number of goals? Well done on our attacking unit for covering for his inadequacies.

I'm just debating your point-

My point is Pickford was part of a relatively solid defence in the World Cup.

So you're wrong.

I'm not mate, he concedes a lot of goals regardless of whoever is in front of him.

Bore off.

Well he's a WC semi finalist. That much is undeniable.

Enjoyed your come back to a valid critique of your sensationalist point: "bore off".

Edgy mate. Very edgy. ;)
