2018/19 Jordan Pickford

Tim Howard was not an accomplished keeper at Premier League level when he joined Everton. That simply isn’t true, dave. He’d sat on United’s bench for 2 years after a largely awful first season. And he was very erratic himself.

Pickford a brilliant save against Stoke with minutes left to keep us 1-0 up. That is the definition of winning a game for us by being unbeatable. He’s made other big saves that have changed games or kept us in them (Bournemouth at home, West Ham at home, Split away etc). As goalkeepers should I might add.

Have we seen a truly special performance from him e.g. Nigel Martyn at Anfield or Southall in 95? Possibly not. But only the very best have more than a couple of those in a whole career, and he’s 24 with one full Premier League season under his belt.

At the moment, except for maybe Digne and Richarlison, he’s the least of our worries. Get in the centre back or striker threads if you want a good moan.
Agter gifting the ball to the opposition in the first place.

He finds a team mate with thoase passes maybe 1 in 3 times.

Is it worth it to be 'brave' as his idiot manager calls that type of GK play?
Absolutely it is. If he just lumps it up then Spain come back on to us instantly. 2 goals last night have come from Pickfords kicking, I think you're gonna have to get used to it mate because I feel the longer we have with Silva's system the more Pickfords going to be trusted to play out from the back. Which is a good thing because that is what he is good at.

I don't understand why people are so determined to say Pickford is the great / rubbish and get so worked up about it.

The lad is a good goalie. He is still young and learning the game. He can be one of the best if he sticks at it. He isn't yet, but he could be.

Obviously Dave has this weird obsession with disliking certain players and nothing will ever change his mind about them (Baines and Pickford). He throws odd insults at players that play for us instead of just highlighting their faults rationally.

Anyhow, I am made up to have Pickford in goal for us. One of the few good signings made by that last lot in charge

Why is he thick Dave? Is it because he has an accent? What he said was true...it did get stuck under his feet and he offered an explanation.. It happens to all keepers in a stage of there career. It was a mistake, he has held his hand up to that mistake and he will move on from that mistake so all we need is for you to move on from the mistake rather than use it as a dagger for eternity. You really are a very dramatic man who makes mountains out of mole hills and thrives on it.
That's just it, he didn't hold his hand up for it did he?

He stated that there was "nothing I could do about it". Now that isn't holding your hand up, it's someone saying that it was a problem that he had to react to...when he was the one who put it in motion in the first place.

As said: keep offering this GK a free pass and indulging him and he'll keep making these howlers.

He bolloxed up a lot there last night but we're all supposed to forget that and give him credit for launching the ball downfield route one for a goal. We see him every week for Everton making howler after howler and the penny doesn't seem to drop for many. Maybe if he did it in the derby it'd concentrate minds as to just what a clown he is?

Remember last time pickford was getting strangely dug out after an england game.1 match afterwards he was awarded hero status for saving 1 out of 5 penaltys and his team scoring more penaltys than the opposition.

Thats not a dig at my mate jord, it just highlights how rediculous the microscope is on an england goalie. Its either world class or calamity status. Its actually neither

Any team that conceded from a GK punting it long aren't concentrating.

Honestly, Glenn Hoddle's championing of Pickford has been a calamity.

The second one is a punt, but an accurate punt. The first is brilliant play. He knows exactly what he's doing, he doesn't chip the ball, it is driven into Kane's feet totally negating the Spanish press and leaving us 3v3 with their backline. Therefore creating the opportunity. I know you're argument is gonna be "well he only does that 1 every 3 times" or whatever but it shows that in a proper footballing side (which England are now) his strengths on the ball are even more noticeable.

Also the best save I've ever seen at a world cup.

That;'s a big stretch. He got the ball to his own player who was still 15 yards inside his own half of the pitch. To describe that as setting up a goal is silly - same with the long high punt downfield to Kane which was placed for two Spaniards to have equal opportunity to get possession of.

It;s a nonsense to say he had an effective assist for two goals.

I was more referring to the opportunity to spring the attack as opposed to the direct assist. But that Pickford pass was the most important in that move as it took 7 Spanish players completely out of the game.

And my answer to that is that it was a pass he makes clean a minority of times...then you have to have some blistering pace and skill to get it in the net from there. Transfer that pass to Everton and we dont profit from it. My concern is not England - they have players who can turn that sort of distribution into a chance of scoring. We dont. We just get the GK who makes calamitous errors.

Week after week? Howler after howler ? Are you Adrian Durham in disguise? Do you just stay on here to be contrary?
I don't usually post on here, but by Christ you don't half come out with some s... hite lad. Have a word with yourself. Or just go back to bed.

I'd argue that we have the players in the team now to profit off that kind of distribution. In comparison for the same scenario we'd have Richarlison, Walcott and Sigurdsson/Bernard. I think there is enough quality and pace there to do something similar.
