2018/19 Jordan Pickford

This!

That's actually annoyed me more than the error. We have to concede Liverpool are better than us so to have players using phrases like that only adds to the psychological barrier of going to Anfield next time and makes it harder. The pressure to beat them at Goodison I think is huge. We've had a generation go through school never seeing us win at Anfield, we're getting close to kids leaving school without us winning a derby full stop.

Using phrases like "Everton luck" is making that record seem excusable.

It is up there with the infamous “unexpected losses” quote.

Some people dont see the scale of the problem we have against Liverpool, and their backing up Pickford is part of that problem.

It's an unvirtuous circle we've gotten into as a fanbase: the acceptance of smackdowns from that lot which is conveyed to the players who then accept their 'fate' in a derby which is then accepted again by fans and then on we go to more and more reversals.

Understand this: no wins in a derby since 2010 and no wins at Anfield for 19 years is an unbearable stigma and an utter humiliation that cant be handled by many of us anymore.

Pickford's howler and his woeful post match comments have to be seen in that context.

This is it absolutely. You can get over errors but what struck me was the potential impact this will have on a whole set of players new to the derby, and who didn't show any sign of playing with a psychological handicap until THAT happened.

Adding insult to injury doesn't begin to describe the massive kick in the proverbials we suffered yesterday, and it being self-inflicted.

There must be literally no circumstances in which the RS countenance this fixture going against them any longer. It was hard enough as it was.

If any blame is apportioned for us losing the game, yes you can point it at Pickford for his error but for me the biggest culprit is Gana.

Why stay down for so long in injury time? Needlessly added unnecessary moments onto injury time.

This is exactly how I feel.

Pickford could possibly have done better but it was a freak incident. 9 times out of 10 the ball would go out of play after hitting the top of the crossbar.

The bottom line is that we matched one of the best teams in Europe away from home. It's years since we did something like that. Very encouraging.

Spot on.

I don't think it is Khal.

He's said what we all think, let's be honest. That's why it's annoying.

I'm glad he did the interview. He shouldn't have made the mistake and he should do better in that situation. It wasn't a routine one but he got it all wrong and it is our luck there that it happened the way it did. As I've said previously, in any other game I honestly reckon that ball goes out of play. It's not a conspiracy or anything, it's just that rabble.

I hope words were said in the dressing room afterwards.
Cleared the air, behind closed doors.
I would hope our skipper was involved and we move forward.

The words that will have been said are that the boys will all be behind him. He knows he made a mistake. They'll analyse it with the coaches.

There will have been no uproar. Nobody trying to throttle him.

Because they're professionals and a tight-knit group. There's nothing to clear the air about. It's an error that he will have to put behind him.

Awful mistake that cost you a well deserved point. Understandable there’s a lot of angry/hurting people but he’ll be a fans fav again in no time he’s a strong character and still a very good keeper

Gutted for yous gutted for Jordan too you can tell he’s enjoying being part of your club

He'll come back stronger and more determined mate. Absolute brain fart moment mistake and he will know it but we move on and what a great game for him next to get back to winning ways when your bezzy mates the horse punchers come to town.
