We've been crap since we signed him. He is a huge part of that. And like Gordon, he has convinced people he can't be dropped by being energetic and doing the odd good thing. Our defence is constantly at odds to what he's going to do, and while they don't get a complete pass, I do think he has been the 1 constant all this time.

A steady, reliable keeper capable of communicating and doing the simple things would improve us.

No he's like several notches below that.

I think there is a misconception that because he makes reaction saves from close in it means he's a good shot stopper but getting beat repeatedly from far out is really bad and pretty much disqualifies you from being labeled as such. You wouldn't label someone a great passer if they could hit 60 yard balls but not consistently find players feet on the simpler ones. Similar concept.
Well, yes, I meant that he was a tick below world class from shots up close. He's usually REALLY good at reactionary saves. But everything else is very suspect.

Nev was just superb- definitely best in the world in the mid 80s - that is from Franz Beckenbauer.

He knew when to roar at a teammate, but was such a commanding presence. I just felt we would more than likely win those days with him.

The problem is at this point who is actually paying the money? Spurs maybe, but Lloris is still far better even as he gets up in age. Arsenal don't really need to buy another keeper and especially another middling one with the England tax included. Everyone else on track for Europe this season is covered. Does anyone not in Europe really need to send a bunch of money at us and would he even want to go?

Newcastle.

Always does well for them.

We didn't look as chaotic or exposed defensively with begovic versus the Geordies, than for most of the games where we look like the keystone cops with Pickford in goal.

Every set piece its a lottery if we deal with it correctly - I think begovic might have come for the palace goal as well, Pickford just sits on the line waiting for this to happen.

Pickford is a stopper of good shots and an average keeper, nothing more, and I would feel more relaxed if we played begovic, but I can't see Fronk dropping England's number 1 for the run in.
I agree with the last sentence here- ironically given his comments yesterday, I'm not sure Frank has the b-llox to drop Pickford, even though the case for Begovic is starting to stack up.

Maybe it's a coincidence that we're shipping goals with Pickford in nets whereas we had a solid, clean-sheet performance with Begovic the other night. But surely in our predicament you give him another go to find out if it was a coincidence or not?

Begovic is the better all round keeper. He communicates better with the backline and comes out off his line more. I certainly feel better with him in goal. It’s not much but it counts.
I agree. If a big offer comes for Pickford the club shout bite their hand off. The more I see the goals he's conceded the more I think of the T-Rex jibes. Many a true word is spoken in jest.

Merson basically calling for him to be dropped from England duty. The agenda is relentless with the media lot. Name a recent England goalkeeper who has performed better in tournaments than Pickford. It’s absolutely blatant, they just despise him being England’s number 1 and the fact that they want Ramsdale as his replacement, the bloke who is making an error a game and can’t perform in big matches, is laughable.

I'm suprising myself saying this but thought Begovic was more reassuring the other day... caught crosses, saved 6 shots, kept it simple, hardly notice him, meaning he won't get any photos for his shelf, but that's a good thing isn't it? I'd bring Begovic back for West Ham, he deserves another start

Im really starting to think that again. There was a stage where he was getting help off the field to make himself calmer on the pitch and i really thought it had solved a problem.
But i think he's not good for defenders confidence and vica versa. He also hasnt got a presence between the sticks. Maybe thats harsh as not many other than the greats possibly did. But i prefer a bigger keeper that makes strikers think more.
Pickfords a bit like that kid in the park who pulls off spectacular saves. But in the bigger kids games he looks...er like the kid still.

If I didn't think it would negatively affect Pickford, I'd love nothing more than for the gammons to get a massive Ramsdale howler to cost them.

I don’t rate him never really have. People go on about him been a great shot stopper. I have never seen it myself. he’s suspect from range and let’s in shots amateur goalies would save from time to time like the Son goal but there has been many more. He’s young and might improve I don’t think he will tho his only real quality is split reaction saves.

PL career:

201 games played
91 losses
299 goals conceded
16 personal errors leading to goals

He might do the Crusaders a good turn but he's been 'kin hopelss for us.

In a heartbeat I'd have Begovic in until the end of the season.

If that idiot had played against Newcastle he's have lost the plot and the game. We all know it too.

GTF.

The best thing he's ever done in an Everton shirt is crock VVD.

That says it all.
