Last Film You Watched

I think so, it was over three hours long.

I'm not on a windup, I just lost interest as it dragged on. Prepared to be a pariah on this, I just don't find it as great as everyone tells me it is.
I really like Apocalypse Now but the Redux version is a self indulgent mess. Pretty sure the original cinema release cut the plantation scene entirely and another 30 minutes here and there. There is a Directors cut which puts the plantation scene back in and extends a couple of other bits but the cinema release is the better cut for me.

I had similar thoughts about Brando's scenes the first time I watched it but it's gradually got less jarring with repeated viewings. There's nothing sage or wise there, it is just a broken man rambling and a similarly broken drugged up hippy seeing something great that isn't actually there.

Much like the film. It's not the deep philosophical commentary or gritty portrayal of Vietnam that it's often presented as. It's a mad Filipino exploitation war film / adventure with very little historical or military accuracy.

Thank you, I think this is the right point between my hysterical denunciation of the whole film and the committed defence it inspires.

I've, lately, been returning to movies I watched as a youngster and have been totally enthused by some and left underwhelmed by others. Apocalypse Now probably couldn't live up to my remembering of it, but the Redux was, as you've said, a self indulgent mess.

Dr Strange is laughing at the edgy hipsters who think Marvel cares about your opinions after they just made another billion dollars.
Yip... You just incited an image of a boardroom full of Disney executives, all sinister like, rubbing their hands, donning evil grins going: How else can we rape this franchise for more $$$?

The CEO, who probably looks like a proper Bond villain, lets out an evil laugh...

One of the junior executives who's nose is far up the boards ass he can taste what they ate for lunch comes running in: I know! Lets cross over Star Wars and Marvel!

You know it's coming mate!

Apocalypse Now. Alright, hear me out. I just don't rate it. You're thinking of the Valkyrie scene; but there is a hell of a lot of confused, pretentious filler.

At one point the crew of the boat trade diesel to help Playmates stuck on a helicopter. It takes twenty minutes.

The whole French rubber plantation thing drags like a David Starkey talk on Brexit.

Then, the climax. Behave, it's badly lit, badly scripted foolishness.

Come at me, but you know I am right.
Possibly the best film ever made in my humble opinion

Expendables 3

For some reason they decided to introduce a load of young edgy sorts to freshen up the franchise and thus entirely defeat the point. Far too long as well. Remove the new crew subplots as they clearly couldn't be bothered writing actual characters or anything of interest and stick with Snipes & Banderas as new members and it would have been a lot better and about an hour shorter.

agree it's not an accurate war film, or even deeply philosophical. I don't think it's trying to be: it's a fever dream, a mad trip of mania into The Heart of Darkness (Conrad's book arguably being more an inspiration than the Vietnam war).

Brando's role is magnetic....so powerful...and so effectively filmed:

Apocalypse Now gets a rare 10/10 from me.

Agree the Redux should only be watched after first seeing the original theatrical cut. The extended scenes are interesting but bugger up the pacing & atmosphere. One for completists.
