League of Ireland 2024

Wonderful game tonight. Was lucky to have an away end ticket with my lad, what an experience. One for the years. Stunning form of Saints of late but 1-2 games too late for a deserved title shot. Next season.

Shels did not impress me and won’t make the title, rovers look to have the most favourable run in. Duff also looks to be crumbling under the pressure and it’s feeding to some of his players on pitch.

To be fair to Shels they've had a good season, they have lost their 2 best players mid way through the season, they have no right being 4 points clear with 4/5 games left in the season, other clubs would want to have a good look at themselves namely Shamrock Rovers and Derry City. I have Shels currently as the 6th best team in the league, the manager has done a great job but no matter how you cut it the fact is they're simply not very good. Like Shels it is difficult to trust Derry, hard to see them beating Pats when that game comes around. For me Shamrock Rovers I think will win it, they won't be any bigger than 8/15 for any of their remaining matches and I think Bradley will sacrifice Thursday night to retain the league title and I can see them winning all their remaining games to leave them on 61 points, I can't see anybody else reaching that total. Regardless of what they win or don't win come the end of the season If I was Derry i'd get rid of Higgins and his terrible football style.

Btw I really enjoyed watching that game last night, must have been a cracker to be at.

Yes agree rovers likely winners at this point. They have to start with beating Shels on Sunday but will still need Shels to lose one of their other run in games after it.

It's almost as if nobody wants to win the title. Shels definitely overachieving, fair play to them. But I've grown to really dislike Duffer and his theatrics. They are a dour and dogged team. Just look at the league table. Scored less goals than Drogheda ffs. In fact outscored by nearly all teams bar Galway, Dundalk and Bohs. They've only won game more than the 6 teams below them.

But not their fault. Considering the investment behind Derry and Rovers, they are shameful in their performances this season. Dunno how Higgins and Bradley survive.

As for Dundalk, relegation almost required to reset and clear out overpaid and underperformed players. Club have been badly run for years. This isn't the first time they've been in financial distress. Considering their dominance in the last decade and two Europa league campaigns, it's sad to see how far they've fallen.

Derry and Shels have each won just 1 league match since the end of June. That's nearly 4 months. And they're both still up there. Mental. If Galway hadn't dropped points to Dundalk a few weeks ago, they'd also be right in the mix. Rovers could be distracted by Europe and could open the door for the form team Pats to swoop. Might not be the greatest season in terms of quality but definitely an intriguing finish ahead...

Tightest finish I remember in over 50 years.

Four points between the top 5 with 3 to play.

I am amazed that Rovers are so close after a pretty banal domestic season although delighted with European campaigns.

I think Shels can just hold on.I like Duffer and wouldn't begrudge it.

we have two aways to the Boynesiders finishing at home to Waterford.

The crowds should be huge for the run in for all those clubs

KOH!!!

Womens cup final is in Tallaght on Sunday. Athlone and Shels the two best sides in the country go at it again. Last years final was a cracker and this will hopefully be the same. I know most won't but if you have a couple of hours, it's well worth a trip to it tbf. I'm going to head up from Cork for a look anyway.
