????Oh god, he’s going to become our DoF isn’t he
After our last 2, can it be any worse
Don’t answer that??

????Oh god, he’s going to become our DoF isn’t he
It is embarrassing if that is the standard of our better players.
I would hope there will be bigger clubs than those interested.
If not, then are we guilty of overeating some of our players.
I would have thought he would be worth about 35m as an experienced Premiership player and current French international.
If Lucas Digne goes to Juventus and Arthur Melo comes the other way the we have made a good deal. Giving that Mykolenko will also be bought. My opinion.
We were not bottom half, the player supposedly on 200k was not on anything like that when Benitez arrived, according to reports at the time, his wages were widely reported to have been around 140k, but, seemed to go up day by day when Benitez and the club were trying to get the fans onside by selling him.*Looks at club before he arrived*:
- Botton half of the table
- Players on £200k taking the piss
- Half a billion thrown into a furnace buying two-bob players for £30M each
- Director of Football who couldn't find his own arse with two hands
There was nothing to damage.
He undoubtedly is the problem and he is once again demonstrating that in he appointment of our current manager. Benitez will have no control over Moshiri’s whims. Just because Moshiri is a problem, that doesn’t mean Benitez isn’t.Be careful what you wish for ? This is true, some want our manager sacked right now and need to take that advice on board considering who we are likely to get to replace him, as for damaging the club, Moshiri has just spent 6 years doing that, he is the problem
That's an outrageous tissue of half truths and over-claims.We were not bottom half, the player supposedly on 200k was not on anything like that when Benitez arrived, according to reports at the time, his wages were widely reported to have been around 140k, but, seemed to go up day by day when Benitez and the club were trying to get the fans onside by selling him.
The money thrown into the furnace on the two bob, thirty million pounds players was thrown there by Moshiri, Benitez, pulling down everything, will have no effect on that, if Moshiri takes a fancy to a player he will buy them, nothing Benitez can do about that.
The director of football was not doing his job, whether that was due to a lack of ability, or, interference from Moshiri and the managers we have had, is moot. I know you don’t agree, but, it is madness at a club like ours to give a manager full control and not have a DOF. Even managers who are accepted by all the fans will not stay here very long, Moyes was the last man to reach 3 years here I believe, this being the case, allowing a manager, Benitez for instance, full control means that we will, once again, see players brought in to suit the manager’s system, the manager will be fired or resign and we will be left with more highly paid players who don’t fit the new mans plans. Of course, they will be on high wages and difficult to move on.
The other problem with Benitez the destroyer, as you seem to see him is, who ever is in control, my preference would be a competent, empowered DOF, will be responsible for molding the style of play across the club’s teams, I think even Benitez’ supporters would shudder at having to watch the kind of football he serves up for the next
5 or 10 years.
I could understand you defending Benitez as a safe pair of hands until the books look better balanced, but, letting him destroy the fabric of the club and rebuilding it in his image, that is indefensible.
As usual Dave, you haven't addressed the question, who exactly is going to rebuild what Benitez tears down? That's an outrageous tissue of half truths and over-claims.
The only minor thing you got right was we were 10th rather than 11th when Benitez was appointed.
It was pointed out in multiple sources that James was on 200k pw. And the other signings made in the last 6 years of profligacy were eye-watering amounts for mediocre players. Everton were seen as the opportunity of a lifetime for tat journeymen to hand themselves a retirement plan with little asked of them by way of return. Dispute that...
The DoF was an appalling fake. End of story on that. I cant believe you're even revisiting that subject and trying to defend him.
Benitez: my claim is that he's part of the solution in that context: he'll take away that superfluous tier of bureaucracy and hand back full control to a football manager. He's dont that already. Hopefully the rest of the hierarchy above him are for the off too soon. He's got a grip of the playing staff and read them the riot act. Something that needed done also for years. Hopefully the cadre of coaches who have stolen a living off this club will be given attention too...although some 'kin divvy adding that streak of piss Weir to the cone laying staff is an issue he also now has to deal with (has the unmissable stink of Kenwright on it that one).
Just accept reality: we have a manager here who will make his stamp on the organisation as a whole. Let's go with it and not fight it....because the things he's fighting against needed to be fought and overcome.
To rebuild means that the first step in doing that is tearing down the old. That's the base we erect a new Everton on. Benitez will get the tone and philosophy of discipline needed at this club - something Moyes achieved when he first came in from Preston and cracked the whip. He'll be out of here well before the new stadium is opened and by that time we will have a different manager who can come in and build their vision for a team fit for that stadium. As usual Dave, you haven't addressed the question, who exactly is going to rebuild what Benitez tears down?
You said I was trying to defend Brands, I wasn't, I have said many times that for whatever reason his tenure was a failure, what I did defend and will continue to do, is the DOF model.
The 200k reports that were reported in 'multiple outlets' were only reported as such in the short period of time when Benitez was trying to justify getting rid of him , his wage seemed to go up 10k per week every day according to Benitez' tame media hacks.
So Dave, here is the question again for you, who will rebuild the club if Benitez is allowed to pull the lot down around his ears? Do you think revolution will work here?
Evolution is what is needed, or, you will see us spiraling out of control, once our Iranian overlord realises Benitez is not the messiah.
If Lucas Digne goes to Juventus and Arthur Melo comes the other way the we have made a good deal. Giving that Mykolenko will also be bought. My opinion.
And be rebuilt by whom? We would be taking a huge risk entrusting that to him. Its a long time since he was involved in building a team, let alone a club.
His forte these days is taking on teams and adding a little to what is already there and then crying to the press that the club won't back him with sufficient funds
If honest I think we are in for 2 seasons of change and difficult times
I don’t believe Benitez will challenge a top 4 place, I don’t even think he will challenge for a Europa place
I simply see 2 seasons of change in playing staff and back room staff, and maybe after that we can then look at getting a young progressive manager in
I believe Benitez will move into a role of overseeing team and transfer affairs after he has got us into a stable state
Not sure my view will suit people,
If Lucas Digne goes to Juventus and Arthur Melo comes the other way the we have made a good deal. Giving that Mykolenko will also be bought. My opinion.
Any serious link to Melo ???
I think, unfortunately you are so wrong. Tearing things down, all in one fell swoop, cannot be a good thing unless there is a clear plan going forward. There is no evidence whatsoever that Everton, or Benitez are capable of carrying out such change. They are both capable of ripping down, building up is a different kettle of fish.To rebuild means that the first step in doing that is tearing down the old. That's the base we erect a new Everton on. That's how I hope to see things work out.
But make no mistake: Benitez or someone like him is required here as the first step towards that. A cleanhouse manager who reimposes hard work and discipline on a dangerously errant club that's lost its way.
Moyes certainly didn’t take an axe to the playing staff immediately. It was slow and methodical, not this mad Texas Chainsaw Massacre approach we are now unfortunately witnessing. To rebuild means that the first step in doing that is tearing down the old.
