Devil's advocate here.

What if the system is not one that should be improved?

I agree with what you are saying , I said it for a good while that benitez needs his players here for his tactics. Just watching us all season, is the system one we actually want to have?

No the system is terrible and archaic. We get dominated in midfield, we leave our striker isolated, we cant defend and the manager complicates everything to the point where our thick players end up not having a clue what their supposed to be doing and conceded constantly.

But as I said he isnt going anywhere so bringing in better players for that system is the only option the club has left to it.

It also has the option of getting rid of the manager and bring in a new one to change the system, loathe to call it a system, I think mess is the best word for it.

Given the level of interest, we've got to be pushing for at least 28-30m for him on a permanent deal - no loans, no obligations, and no low-ball offers accepted in a panic just to get him out of the door.

Edit - and no bloody swap deals, don't want to see Aaron Ramsey nor Sean Longstaff even mentioned as makeweights in any potential deal.

Newcastle will pay over the odds for Digne because it will show their intent to become a big club. They will probably have to offer very high wages to entice the player as they seem to have done with Tripper.

Digne however will probably favour a move to Chelsea. But Chelsea will want to pay a lesser amount as they are basically signing a back up for Chilwell until he returns from injury.

I doubt the other clubs mentioned can compete with the two named above.

Anyone trying to use the Chelsea game as evidence of good tactics didn't watch it. It was an embarrassment tactically and much more one sided than defeats against Liverpool and City were but we got lucky and had some young lads who gave it their all.

I was going to reply to him but cba.
We were hanging on by our fingernails from virtualy minute 1.
What made it worse was i watched brighton go their just after and take the game to them. Totaly held their own.

I don't think he gets into France squad for the world cup by playing at Newcastle. Certainly not if they get relegated, which will be out of his hands really unless he turns into Messi. Can't see him choosing Newcastle.

Yeah because Newcastle are not going to be in Europe next year or the year after, and Trippier is in the England squad partly because he's just at such a high level in his training and work at Atletico. Digne might if he feels like he's not really going to get into a CL club, and I i was really surprised that Trippier is going to Newcastle. I can't believe that people would go JUST for money. I thought it would be money + ambition, like when Man City started people knew they had a plan and they weren't going to just be relegated at the point they started getting Robinho etc. Newcastle are far below that, even if they make it up there to Man City level in 10 years, Trippier won't be part of that. I thought he had 2 more years of a Champions League team with him. For that reason, can't believe Digne would want to go either...say he gets 100k per week,,,but what's life like for the next 4 years?

And they won't be putting in a relegation clause that'll rescue him particularly. Salary related sure. But won't be in their interest to have an easy exit for him either.

He's just managed a few years at Everton. I can't see Newcastle being much more of a footballing hardship.
