Martinez: Everton players fear Goodison Crowd

Honestly lad I don't care what Bulgarians, Bosnians and the like do at their games because I'm talking about England, and Everton in particular.

The fans are as bad as the team, and I dunno if you get to the game or whatever your situation, but the environments that bad that going the game is no longer enjoyable.

all i am saying is that they should thank God every day for the life and the "fears" they have. How stones and the likes of him (i dont think it's Besić or Mori that are much afraid of booing) can face Diego Costa, Lee Cattermole, put their body on the line for the club and for the team or face the pressure of big games (league cup final, derby, europa league 1/8 ??) if they are shiting themselves after few drunk shouts or boos ?

That won't happen because him and the crowd are not in tune. He makes decisions the crowd does not agree with.

It started last season when he made baffling substitutions, and players who would be having a good game would be subbed, and the decision would be booed.

It continued with the tip tap football in our penalty box instead of clearing the ball, which has led to so many mistakes and letting in so many goals.

There's John Stones (with all the potential in the world but playing poorly) insulting the crowd by doing 'calm down' gestures when people (who have seen so many mistakes this season) are anxious about him farting around with the ball.

Then there's Tim Howard, the walking embodiment of everything that's broken in the relationship between the manager and the crowd. So many mistakes, yet still in the team, despite Robles showing he's a better keeper in the games he's played.

Howard is lucky to be in the team, but instead of keeping his head down or even apologising for poor form and vowing to do better, he acts defiant/cocky/arrogant, 'to hell with the critics' and sarcastic applause to the crowd on several occasions.

There's several players on the pitch who clearly do not respect the crowd and haven't done for a long time.

People go on about the crowd, but the reasons are there for all of this. You don't get an atmosphere like this overnight, it builds, and it's been building for 18 months.

I take all those points on board mate and I agree with them. It's a culmination and accumulation of things.

But, I think for the last 18 months there's been certain sections of support so quick to jump on with the booing that it really hasn't helped either.

It's six of one, half a dozen of the other for me.

The main flaw in Martinez is his stubbornness, which is sometimes also his greatest strength...

The decision that is his downfall at the moment is Howard.

Where does he say that?

“It happens at home more than anywhere else. I don’t think we have that sort of doubt and fear [away from home]."

What's the difference between playing at home and playing away mate? The one difference?

It isn't the football. It's still eleven vs. eleven.

He's tried to be creative in his language, but he's effectively said as clear as day that he blames the home crowd for instiling fear in his team. That is bang out of order and an utter cop out that I hope we, collectively, are intelligent enough to see right through.

We don't help at all. When Stones is having words with the crowd then there are real issues.

You could literally see Ross' confidence falling away after every misplaced pass. The team aren't doing the business but the fans are turning up offering ZERO backing to the team, then as soon as a few passes go astray the place becomes hell for the players.

Forgot the 'they get paid loads a money' shouts for a minute, these are normal people who will be affected by shouts and groans, the lot. They need support, and voice the anger at the end not at half-time or during the game. Noone wants to hear it but our fans right now are only making the situation worse.
Ross is a weird one tbh. The crowd seems to get on his back, but he plays better with an arm around his shoulder. Honestly, don't know what to make of the crowd or what would be needed to change it. Said it in the match thread, very weird crowd.
The crowd was booing after three minutes today mate, just before Besic hit the post.

Three. Minutes.

It's toxic atm. Half down to the team/manager, and half down to frustration and panic setting in way too quickly.

Interestingly, if you go back and watch the first half, the only time Stones actually loses possession is for their goal. After that, on every occasion he gets the ball, he looks well in control. Who panics and starts booing and shouting and screaming? The fans.

I'm not at all saying the fans shouldn't be able to air their frustration or that they shouldn't. But today, and I'll say it again as it's the only way I can think to describe it, the atmosphere was toxic.
Which is down to the team playing like garbage for the last 18 months.
Spot on mate.

Also, very young players. I honestly can't fathom why people choose to boo their own team when it's quite clear they were giving their all in the second half.
booing DURING the second half would have been crap. But that's kinda the point. The team has no idea how to play 90 minutes. Thats Martinez. I would venture a LOT of the booing would be a referendum of that degree. If we have bad players and play crap for 90 minutes, thats one thing. But we have literally class players and still are AWFUL for at least one half today.

Oh, and by the way, the fans are 100% correct to boo what we're seeing right now. Absolutely correct. We have expectations and they're not being met.

If Martinez can't meet those expectations, then do one you clueless Spanish biff and we'll give another deserving manager a crack at meeting them, instead of moaning at the fans for having them.

Ross is a blue as well it's mental.

I get they should be trained to deal with blocking out abuse, but these players cannot expect to be booed by their own crowd regularly.

In simple terms the teams under-performed, the crowd have then under-performed, which has led us into a crisis between the two.

Does seem the act of a desperate man. I'm a big Roberto fan and even though he may be right about the crowd not helping, coming out with it in public is only going to fan the flames. Our crowd has always been the same, nothing new here and we have been successful in the past so no good blaming us now, not our duty to baby them and if they are all that sensitive maybe professional football is not for them as all crowds are demanding when you are not living up to expectations.
