Martinez: The Reality

got a horrible feeling we are walking eyes open into a disaster with this fella, big summer for him this

I don't think we will TBF.

Putting this season into perspective, you can still see why he's still learning the trade at another level.

He went from a team that nothing major went wrong - signings spot on, limited injuries, football that was a breath of fresh air - to the complete opposite.

He's had to plough through the mire of double the amount of games, European football, and a mass of injuries.

Happened to Moyes. He was fresh to that side of the managerial game and it took its toll in his 2nd season. Its a different ball game - fitness, rotation, gameplans - to just playing the Premiership week in week out.

Remove the European games, the side became settled, players coming back, go on to win games.

Yes, we've all panicked. But I do think its more down to the manager learning the trade than him not being capable.

The better players are all linked with moves elsewhere, which is inevitable, but while last summer you could see why people would have been keen to stay, because there was a real buzz about where the club was heading after Roberto Martinez’s first season, following this weird, directionless campaign you could imagine a few of them thinking that the grass (money) might be greener elsewhere.
Following the [Poor language removed]-storm surrounding Mirallas’s miss from the spot against West Brom, you would think that there would have been stern words in the dressing room and a hard and fast policy put in place to prevent the same sort of embarrassment occurring again.

You would though, wouldn’t you? That’s what would happen at a serious club. Even if the manager said ‘sort it out amongst yourselves’, John Terry or Wayne Rooney or some other win-at-all-costs [Poor language removed] would be pointing fingers and laying down the law.

Not at our [Poor language removed] happy clappy band camp though.

What he does have to at least do though is reassert himself and give the impression that he’s in charge and not just going with the flow and hoping everything turns out ok, which is how he looks sometimes. He can’t convey strong leadership with what he says, because no one really listens to his post-match babbling any more, but what he does with the squad will be key, because the whole thing looks ripe for a cull and a shake up. Some senior players look ‘stale’ – to put it politely – and it doesn’t look as if there is any great competition for places.

The reality (some peoples eyes) is Martinez has followed a manager that had us playing stylish football like a Real Madrid or Barcelona, and we constantly scored at least 3 goals per game.
In reality (again) Martinez over achieved in points and in the way we played last season.
People now for some reason think last season is now the standard, and we should be challenging for the prem

Time for a reality check, we are a team that will finish between 5th & 9th most seasons, and will only challenge for 4th when we have season were everything goes right for us.

This isn't an excuse for this season, as it has been below par and in periods unacceptable....
I do believe as a Club we will improve under Martinez, but with certain peoples expectations it will be hard for the manager.

Well he did say he would get us in the C L

He did mate, but I didn't think anybody was expecting it so quickly.
Just reinforces my belief over the ridiculous expectations people have of the manager an the club
Should have kept his grid shut then,in fact I don't believe anything he tells us.

I think he told this to BK who blurted it out, maybe it wasn't just a 'I will get you into the CL' comment.
Maybe it had structure to it, on the lines of how we can build and aim for a CL place
Martinez isn't one for quick and snappy one liners

You just don't like him, and deep down you will want us to under achieve so you are proven right

Pretty sad way to support your Club

Never questioned how long you have been supporting Everton, just pointing out your agenda against RM has to blur your outlook and wanting the team to do well.

It has to, if you dislike somebody or something the obvious reaction is to want them or it to fail
