2022/23 Mason Holgate

Everyone in a customer facing job has felt the wrath of customers when they're unsatisfied
Ussually from entitled 'karens' lashing out at whoever is closest.
why should this millionaire be protected from that?
Whatever an employee earns is irrelevant.
Dyche says the bare minimum is 100% effort, if he added 100% concentration to that then Holgate wouldn't have got as much stick. Awful performance.
I'd imagine 100% effort is all encompassing, concentration is part of that. We all know concentration isn't Holgates strong suite, but what option did the manager have?

You could argue a back 3 with McNeil and Iwobi as Wingbacks, but beyond that.... Nothing. That's on the board and our recruitment/planning.

Boooooooooo!

Obviously he shouldn’t have been booed off, but such is life. Everyone is stressed about relegation and people are going to act out a bit.

I'm sure he'll get over a couple of boos with his £40+k a week salary to play football badly.

Mason Holgate will be okay. He'll be happily retired from his profession and never have to work again by time he's 35.

So being booed is part of the job he's in and he's compensated for that.

We have 2 left backs who got injured. Our recruitment is atrocious but it's not like Kenwright tackled both of them yesterday lol Injuries happen.

That said - Holgate is in an absolutely atrocious run of form and the criticism is warranted. As you said - what he earns is irrelevant, but what SJB said is also right - he can't give 100% effort (seemingly, if that's his 100% I am at a loss for words), he can't concentrate, he can't win headers... Maybe, just maybe, he is the issue with why he got booed? He doesn't pick himself but surely he should know what his limitations are, no?

Never thought I'd see someone pick the "Defend Mason Holgate" hill to die on tbh.

I get what you're saying. But I've learned to save my wrath for the organ grinder who writes the script, not the poor sod on the till who has to implement the stupidly thought out policies.

I'm not defending him. He's utter garbage.

I'm just not sure what booing a player as he trudges off when his teammates (also not famed for mental strength) still have two massive games to play.

If you think It helps, crack on ;)

Not saying it helps (at least not these jellyfishes, if it was someone with a spine he might take it as a wake up call of sorts), but neither does our players being unarsed on the pitch while playing then cryarsing when they get booed for being unarsed, like.

Treat as you are treated and that, is what I mean.

Let's forget the played for a moment and think of the damage we are doing to the club.

Yeah 40k a week is obscene and it should be a comfort to them, but we are still talking about a human, human confidence is fragile and confidence is key to performance in ANY job. Do we want whats best for the club, or do we want what's best for ourselves by not being able to control our emotions like a 5 year old.

What he is on is irrelevent. Money isnt a magical shield that protects you from emotions etc.

I blame Dyche for the selection and for not adapting the system. One player out seems to completely throw him and he can't adapt.

Our midfield was a shambles when Doucoure got the ban, no DCL means we hoof to Maupay, an injury to Coleman meant he tried Godfrey and Holgate before using a natural full back in that position, and he decided randomly to play Holgate as a left back when Mykolenko was out.

In short, I'm seeing a one dimensional manager who doesn't know how to adapt or find solutions to problems. One player missing should not result in such a drop off in performance

whilst i agree in general, yesterday his 3 main left back options were all out.

Easy with hindsight, but a back 3 was the best way to deal with the problem. If you are struggling at full back, then you ease the issue by using wing backs.

Yes you don't want to change a winning team, but injuries mean sometimes you have to. I can't say he is adapting well to injuries or suspensions and I would be very concerned if we are without DCL on Saturday.

When he changed the shape after Doucoure's suspension everyone went mad (in hindsight, it's what most people wanted him to do at the time) and said why on earth would you not just keep it the same with a different player. This time he does that and the reverse happens. Almost like people have absolutely no clue and are just full of impotent rage so will rail against absolutely anything isn't it?
