Holgate came on and played the last 17 minutes of the match on Saturday, and had a good cameo. But nobody has given him any credit for it, thats poor that, really poor, if he made an error everyone would be happy to jump all over him, its a good example of how we love to witch hunt, and need to stop it

Not a fan of his but he starts RB for me on Sunday if Patterson's out.

pointless loaning him out

We should be selling him

He will just be another Ashley Williams who runs his contract down going out on loans and we get no money for him

Had to many doing this and it needs to stop.

Tuson
Walcott
Bolasie
Williams

And now gbamin and gomes are doing the same

If we do this properly*, we shouldn't lose out from a loan.

We get loan fees that pro rata his transfer value relative to the length remaining on his contract.

Then he can either go on a permanent to the loaning club - or he plays more and shop windows himself into a permanent deal somewhere else.

The worst-case is he sits on someone else's bench, isn't costing us wages while he does it, and we've received a loan fee.

* Yes, I know, Everton and doing things properly don't necessarily belong in the same sentence.

I’m racking my brain trying to think of the last player we loaned out that ended up being bought by the club he was on loan at. Kean had an obligation attached so I don’t count him.

Can’t force him to move for a really low fee just to avoid paying him for 2 more years. Be nice if he and those mentioned above wanted to play first team football and moved voluntarily. But even if we put a price of £2mill on him, the buying clubs will offer him half his current salary, hence why players always want to “stay and fight for my place”.

The mistakes aren’t made now by loaning not selling. The mistakes are made when we dish out stupid contracts. And there is never a way out where Everton can manage the loss. Fully at the mercy of the player’s desire to actually play and take pay cut.

Be very open minded, if we got a loan fee and someone took over his wage.

For example if you got a loan fee of £1 mill and someone took on his 3.7 mill a year wage - that worth 4.7 mill to us.

Most of us would prob sell him for that.

Vlasic and Lookman 4 years ago, but Lookman had a season back here first so wouldn't really count that
