Keane was a regular starter for us for a good while, I don't Holgate has ever tied down a regular starting place, certainly not in the same position (I know he has covered a few areas when injuries have hit).

By that it makes sense Keane should be on a 'better' contract than Holgate, but certainly not to the extent that he is on.

Them 2 and Godfrey are on far more than they're worth.

I don't know what Keane is on but its probably pretty close to market value for someone like him whatever we like to say about him he is definitely a proper Premier League player but Holgate if hes on anything close to what gets mentioned on here has never been worth anything like that and it was an awful choice to give him that deal.

This lad won't play another game for us, and will dropped like stone the second his contract expires next summer. If he wants to play football in the next 12 months, he needs to find a club to loan out to (likely a championship side).

I was stunned at how quickly he turned himself into Southampton's 5th choice CB.

No EPL club, even (especially) those newly promoted will offer him anything. Trouble is no champ' level or lower club is going to cover his wages so it may be tricky to shift him. Loan abroad ?

I think people are overstating how good he was. For me he has never established himself at centre back when everyone was fit. Always felt like he was a mistake away from being back on the bench or full back.

I think people are overstating how good he was. For me he has never established himself at centre back when everyone was fit. Always felt like he was a mistake away from being back on the bench or full back.

I don’t think I was ever happy seeing him line up for a game but thought he might grow into a good defender one day, he definitely never made me think he was there already. Whereas Godfrey actually did put in some fantastic defensive displays at times.

Just look at him signing the contract, he doesn’t look like a cb just a skinny kid no striker would fear playing.

Let the likes of Holgate, Godfrey and Keane be very painful lessons NOT to go offering 5 year deals again unless several of those years are club options for extension only.
