Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

A very sensible woman. Despite living in a lovely house in a nice village Mrs J likes to watch Escape to the Country and always likes houses near a babbling brook or river to which I reply " flood risk " .
I’m with your wife on this - I always watch escape to the country and my dream is a house with a balcony and a view - near water would be the cherry on top. At the top of a hill would be good too. Oh and a walk in wardrobe…

Morning all, pinch punch first day of the month and it’s just started raining again :(.Hope the flooding has receded for those at risk. Luckily we are not at risk of flooding here despite being one of the lowest parts of the country. I vaguely recall from my geography lessons it’s something to do with the number of locks and river washes.
Today I will be mostly looking at the rain - again.
Have a good day, all.💙

Happy 1st October and white rabbits to you G.

Looks like the torrential rain we've been having is on its way to you today so baton down the hatches.

It is dry here when I poked my nose out of the window and went to make breakfast and I will go out later and inspect the damage

Morning everyone. Well it’s not raining and the patio has drained off so all good here. Waiting for an update from son to see if they are ok but I sure he would have let us know by now if there was a problem. Just read about the lorry that came off the thelwall viaduct on the M6 and he has survived- now that’s one lucky guy. The very thought of that happening makes me feel sick. I always feel nervous going over there, Barton Bridge and the QE2 (Dartford) bridge. If my husband says ‘look at that over there’ I’ll be shouting DONT TAKE YOUR EYES OFF THE ROAD FGS. He thinks it’s funny.
Anyway have a great day all and I hope you’re not impacted by the weather 💙

Yep all fine here too , the water has drained and no real damage.

Parbold Mawdesley and Croston were the really big worries flood wise so I'm sure that Newburgh ( beautiful little village) should be fine.

I saw details of that lorry accident on the Thelwell , remarkable that he could have survived.

Actually after all that rain the garden is looking quite spectacular especially the jungle / tropical garden.

Will try to post a photo later.

Have a lovely day everyone.

Thought I'd pop down to the river to see how bad / close to being flooded we are and here's the photo.

Not seen the river level as high as this since about 6/7 years ago when Croston was really badly flooded.

Although it's stopped raining the run off will make us vulnerable to flooding for another 6 hours or so I believe.

Anyway as I said the weather certainly hasn't affected the garden ( the bottom but was flooded by rain water not by the river bursting it's banks.

Here's a photo of our arboretum which you might find hard to believe was only planted in 2020 when we had the first lockdown.

Everything went in as saplings!

Should add that the mature trees on the left and in the distance aren't ours - they've been there for over 40years!

Morning all, bit drizzly here but at least the heavy rain has stopped. Grandkid no.4 was not feeling the happiest when she and her Mum came to pick up her sister yesterday. Her mood wasn’t improved when her Mum said she couldn’t have a J2O, I asked if she had had a good day at school. No she hadn’t and had learned nothing.
What did you do, Maths, Geography History? You like History
No, We don’t do History.
Yes you do Aren’t you doing about the Great Fire of London? That’s history
Nanny, I have zero interest in history or the Great Fire of London 🙄. I gave up
Have a good day, all.💙
