Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Morning everyone,

Well it isn't good is it , every morning we wake up to another atrocity from the Ukraine.

Today is Mrs Js birthday so we are having a day out at the Forest of Bowland with a bit of antique shopping in Clitheroe and lunch in a Mexican.

Well it seems that everyone on here is accepting that we should talk about the invasion now so here's my take.

Putin is leading his country and the World down a very dark path and I fear a path of no return. He only understands 1 thing and that is force and power in return.

We all say he had to be stopped but how. If sanctions are going to work ( and pure economic sanctions have never worked in this situation in the past ) then it will take years .

In that time Putin will destroy an independent country and kill hundreds and thousands of totally innocent people.

Unchecked he will look to pick off the next non NATO country probably Moldova ,perhaps he will look to the North.

No one wants another World War and the terrible threat of nuclear war but history tells us that unless we stand up to this madman now the cconsequences could be even worse in the future.

We must stop the slaughter in Ukraine.

And to think.that some Evertonians are complaining that Usmanov / USM have been sanctioned and the implications for Everton. Against the background of his mate Putin being the butcher of Europe it is beyond me. If you sleep with dogs , you get fleas. Everton will have to accept the price for taking dirty money.

@Sassy Colombian delighted to hear that the job is going well and that you are sorting your work life balance.

I will PM you some photos of my garden ( don't want to clogg up this thread and bore Fred).

Great to hear everyone's musical journey and tastes.

When I was young the only thing I used to listen to was the Beatles , and I still love them now. Paul was always my favourite of the Fab 4. I still regularly play Beatles , Wings and Macca .

Like Fred I was into Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk , Wakeman, Mike Oldfield , Jean Michel Jarre and Camel. Used to love a bit of prog rock!

I've always liked melodic pop like Joan Armatrding , Simon and Garfunkel, Steely Dan , Fleetwood Mac etc.

In the 80/90s I liked punk and then electronics similar to @anjelikaferrett.

Again a few outliers , for instance I am a huge Kate Bush fan , I have every album and think that she's a genius.

In the 90s I started to get into jazz in a big way. I love jazz from the classical priod of 1950 to 1964 , particularly Miles Davis . I think ( at Mrs Js last count!) I have about 2000 jazz cds!

I like some classical music ( an old schoolmate is the leader of the Seville Orchestra) but not opera or choral.

@Sassy Colombian I am also into a lot of Latin and World music. Have you listened to Bebel Gilberto ( daughter of Astrud who sang on The Girl from Ipanema with Stan Getz) , check out Tanto Tempo. Also you might like Ceu another Brazilian female singer.

@Terrarian I love seeing those photos of Daisy , keep them coming.

Oh , we got a football match tonight. Good luck to Frank and the boys , we really shouldn't need it.

I hope that everyone has a lovely day. My thoughts are with those brave souls in Ukraine.
Happy birthday to Mrs J have you watched macca with James Corden in a cab ? Have a great day and don't buy any old armchairs as you have no time to sit in them.

@blue1948 hope you feel better soon. @jazzy Happy Birthday to Mrs J.??? hope you both have a lovely day. @Terrarian love to see your pics so keep them coming. Lovely morning here. I don’t want to dwell on world events as I am a champion worrier and better that I just concentrate on the here and now which I mainly do anyway as I‘ve said before I don’t even like making plans. My musical tastes for anyone interested: Beatles my first love, George was my favourite. Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, AC/DC. Pink Floyd. We used to roadie etc for a local PF tribute band. Also like reggae and blues, Joe Bonnamassa. Not keen on much modern stuff but I guess that’s down to age. Have a good day, all.
Love all of them Gwladys. My favourite song ever has to be Stairway to Heaven. I cry whenever I play it now.

Thanks for the regards but I am not actually sick just sick to my guts .I have just chopped a big birch down and after thanking it for the firewood I feel a bit brighter .

Good evening all. Hope you have all had a lovely day. I've been a lady who lunches today - second Wednesday in a row. Pub lunch with a couple of my friends. A good girlie catch up. Very nice it was too. Then to the gym. OMG! We did upper body stuff. My arms were shaking by the end of it.

Enjoying the music discussions - I have always had a soft spot for Irish bands - Thin Lizzy, The Boomtown Rats, U2 ( early days), The Saw Doctors, The Pogues, The Dubliners. All of them. However my favourites from the Emerald Isle have to be The Undertones.

We've got a cat with a massive cob on - she is properly in a huff with us for leaving her on her own when we went to Liverpool. She has withdrawn petting rights and has taken to sitting on top of the fridge. She did accept some Dreamies today so she might be thawing!

FA Cup tomorrow. Hopefully a good win but this is Everton we are dealing with....
Lost count of how many Irish bands in my CD collection Anj. Clannad, The Horslips, Thin Lizzy, U2, The Rats, The Undertones, The Coors, The Cranberries, Ash, The Script, Snow Patrol. Strangely no Nolans or B*Witched though. lol

Happy Birthday to Mrs J. Hope you have a good day out in the Forest of Bowland. I'm sure there's a place called Gisburn there. We used to see the sign on our way to the Yorkshire Dales and we used to always shout out "Sir Guy of Gisburn" lol

I liked all those groups you mentioned Jazz, and I was a particular fan of Kate Bush. Back in the day I had all her albums on vinyl but only got a couple of her CDs now. A kick Inside and Hounds of Love, my two favourites. Have I ever mentioned she almost a neighbour now.

Big Beatles fan too. The owners of the Cavern Club were my clients and also good friends. Used to often go and see them for a few drinks after work on a Friday and me and Cal got special invitations to see Paul McCartney when he played there. Have you ever been to the Beatles convention at the Adelphi Hotel on August Bank Holiday Sunday? If not, it's well worth a visit Jazz. They have dozens of tribute Beatles bands from all over the world. Some of them are really good.
OMG I've seen Macca's gig at the Cavern on TV , you lucky lucky boy.
Back in the day I used to work with Tom Heckle the brother of the owner.

The last time I set foot in the Adelphi must have been 20 years ago !

Gisburn is a bit further up the A59 , bit of a nothing little village.

Bill Heckle was a really good friend. Did you know he is David Nugent's uncle?. His wife (sadly passed away from MS now) was sister to Sandra Nugent, Davids mum. Big Evertonians the Nugents.

@jazzy Bill Heckle was also really good friends with Alan White, the drummer from Yes. Can't recall how he knew him.

Actually just googled him now. He was the drummer in the Plastic Ono Band (didn't know that) so maybe that's where the Cavern link is.

Morning all mascoteers ,after another day in hell for the Ukranians I wonder why the devil cannot be taken out .All this technology the Americans have must give them some idea of where he is or have I watched too many movies .I hope all posters and families have a great day and stay safe .
I would love to post on others posts but I am just not up to it .
A win tonight will help but my thoughts are much more grounded to be honest .
COYB
Yes, My Dad and I had this conversation at the weekend. The Americans managed to kill an IS leader using a drone so the technology is there.
