He was the worst player on the pitch.

But I’m not going to sit there and bombard the lad. Worked hard, which is a start.

But was all over the place defensively. Benefitted going forward from Garner being very good.

He’ll have much better days, you’d hope and yesterday was a one off. Bright future, just needs to be calmer.

Oh dear. What is it about some professional footballers that makes them so dog-useless on their weaker foot? I suggest that it's probably bone idleness. Patterson should have blocked the cross that led to their goal with his left foot but wanted to use his right. That split second cost him (and us) dearly. I can understand (just) if you want to use your favoured foot to 'thread the ball through the eye of a needle' or to put in a cross/have an attempt on goal. But this was a block tackle FFS. A destructive bit of play where it didn't much matter where the ball ended up as long as it was away from our goal. Brainless! Plus, this was after he'd larried a shot against the bar (because he wanted to see the net bulge, like a kid in the park?) instead of just hitiing it firmly and accurately into a gaping net to give us a lead. Again, brainless. I hope that Dyche tore him a new one!

Absolutely not at fault for the goal, he had to come inside to cover the centre backs. The exact same thing happened 5 mins after the goal. He had to come inside to mark Mitro who was alone in the box, the ball got crossed over him to Reid who Garner wasn't tracking and this time he volleyed over from 5 yards out. Patterson was doing basic defending for a full-back which is to come inside and cover the CBs when they get dragged out.

I think he’s been a poor signing. Both him and Mykolenko are examples of how being young and having resale value isn’t necessarily the answer that some people think it is when the young players happen to be crap and overpriced.

Years are wasted persisting with their development and you actually need someone to be interested in them to be able to sell them on, and there’s always the danger that they will walk away for free anyway, meaning there never was any resale value.

So the investment just becomes a crap overpriced mistake, which is what we have with Patterson and Mykolenko.

Had a poor game it happens.

Perhaps not having Keane next to him or a central midfielder ahead may help.

Also clearly been told to come inside as a 3rd centre back -- never done that in any of our games before.

He's been here almost 2 years mate.

If you're happy with what you've seen so far and see him as improved then you're welcome to that view.

I see a player who in a lot of games has lost his position and cost us dearly.

We cant afford that. We are facing a relegation battle already. Make no mistake about that.

Ah yes. Let’s play our most creative midfielder even further out of position.

Also anyone got any ideas why we don’t score goals?
How do you mean? In what way has he been our most creative midfielder? I've seen nothing to persuasde me that Garner can fulfil that role in CM.

He has a natural aptitude on the right side of the pitch in any position IMO.

This manager knows it too and I expect him to play him there otherwise he's not doing his job.

Argue all you walt about his ability, but for 10m Rangers have dry bummed us
Makes Tony Thomas look like Cafu. Awful defensive qualities, lacks pace, zero positional sense, turns his head and closes his eyes when contesting headers, misses sitters, plays meaningless passes, can't cross a ball. Apart from these minor indiscretions, he is ace.

He's the only player who seems capable of passing the ball forward with any purpose.

Iwobi isn't a winger. We put him on the wing.
Garner isn't a winger. We put him on the wing.
Doucoure isn't an attacking mid/number 10, we put him there.
Maupay isn't a number 9.

The sooner we can put players in their preferred position, the better and no mistake Garner is a CM.

If it was a natural aptitude he’d have been covering Reid yesterday. He’ll probably learn from it though and do a better job next time if he plays there
