I dont think anyone's likening this to a nob measuring contest; the capacity question is entirely legitimate on the grounds that any attempt to hold this stadium size down (certainly below 55,000) is a message hammered out that the club aren't geared up for any maximization of playing success and that we'll hit a natural ceiling and fall back again.
It would be a calamity if the club agree to bend to the will of other parties dependent on us for this project. And that's what I firmly believe is happening here.
At Restricted views Goodison probably none
At a brand new USM Dixie Dean stadium at Bramley Moore Dock , probably every league game

So people want us to match "our peers", yet seem to think our peers are City, Chelsea and the like, when our peers are currently Burnley 21k, Leicester 32k and Bournemouth 11k.
But the Etihad is ONLY 55k
Stamford Bridge is ONLY 41k
Anfield 54k
White Hart Lane 36k
Emirates 60k
Old Trafford 75k
So if we built it at 55k we could match or better 4 out of 6 of the top teams in the league.
The capacity of Anfield is about to be increased to above 60k, as is the capacity of the Etihad.

And construction is about to begin on Chelsea's new 60,000 stadium.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are about to move into a stadium with a capacity of 62,000.

Man Utd's stadium currently holds 75,000, but it will soon hold 88,000.

60,000 is the bare minimum for a big club.
Hi Gareth, when you post The Metro to back up a point you have already lost.
Im not interested in pie in the sky.
Are Liverpool still building a stadium in Stanley Park? Im sure I read that somewhere and are Everton building a new stadium in Kirby or Kings Dock? I defo read that somewhere.
What are you talking about? I never mentioned Stanley Park.
Liverpool are redeveloping Anfield Road. That's just a fact.

Anfield will be expanded to 60,000 or 62.000. They've permission for that mate.
I do agree with some of the concerns RayRay, the way the survey was addressed and the almost "downgrading" of expectations from the fella Meis have certainly given me some slight concern.
I still have some major concerns regarding the whole scheme if im honest, im honestly starting to think StoneCross would have been a much "better" location in regards price to build and expansion in the future.
Im defo not claiming to be an expert on these things, but and I say this respectfully as I can, I doubt the majority of people have even the slightest clue just how hard this whole thing is going to be.
I mean first of all we are gonna be building a stadium, "on the water", water locked on 1 side and pretty much land locked on most of the other sides, in a World Heritage site, with abar 50p for materials.
Of course everybody is focusing on the capacity currently, but I am starting to have some concerns, not that it will be built, more so the fact that im slightly concerned we have committed to a site without REALLY looking into just how difficult the whole thing will be.
If they were not aware of all the difficulties, they wouldn't be where they are now mate. There are plenty of studies as to what is required to build on ground such as what is available at BMD.
Liverpool will speed up plans to revamp Anfield - and are already speaking to companies about sponsoring their new stand.
Officials at the club were given outline permission to extend the Anfield Road End when they applied for planning approval for the now-completed Main Stand.
They have until September 2019 to submit detailed plans for the next phase of the development, which is expected to take the capacity above 60,000.
Nothing confirmed yet, just like we havent had anything confirmed that it will be below 60k.
