New Everton Stadium

I actually think we are marks here by the club. The final capacity will be 55k IMO and the club are already planing it.

Here’s the hustle,

Announce a 52k stadium.

Have divided opinions,

Have a fan consultation,

Overwhelming feedback for 60k.

Club make big show about listening to fans and taking on board their opinions,

Announce a 55k after listening to fans.

Everyone is happy.

100%. It must be the approach they’re taking and it’s a smart way to get fans on side with 55k (when almost everyone wanted 60k originally).

As @davek says, the key thing is that the stadium is truly state of the art. It is a shame though that we aren’t getting the magical 61878 capacity.

If we end up with “55k with the potential for 62k (which is obviously 61878)” but a world class home, I’d be delighted.

I imagine as soon as the capacity is confirmed to the fans (assuming they’ll increase from 52k), we’ll see the designs.

I'm expecting a suped up version of the reebok..

From the 1st day BMD was announced my first thoughts where.
Capacity would be the overiding factor on this getting the Green Light or not.
Built on such a potentially prestigous site the main stumbling blocks would be.
Liverpool Council
UNESCO
English Heritage
Peel Holdings
Planning Dept
Government approval
Todays announcement is the biggest indicator (IMO) that the club has been given the right feedback needed to push on with the project.
Of course its a little short of what I thought it could / should be ( 55-57k )
It also tells me to reach this figure the finances must be in place in order to get approval for the Green Light to push on.
So going on the truly iconic nature of the location i believe this is a compromise for all relevant parties to agree on.
Now its just down to Meiss and his team to produce a stadium worthy of the Clubs heritage and waterfront location.
Make us proud Mr Meiss.

Thinking out loud and may be way wide of the mark, is it possible that the underwhelming 52k capacity is released, planning permission obtained and then a later amendment to the plans is submitted to have a 57k capacity once the main objections have been appeased?

Didn't Dan Mies say there's no chance to expand in the future due to the site, once the stadium is built ... it's built. They were his words out his own mouth and that was less than 6 months ago.

Now all of a sudden we can build a 52k stadium with the option to increase to 62k? An extra 10k is near enough a whole new stand ... on a site which there no chance of expanding on not so long ago.

Just find it strange how he was adamant there was no chance of expanding on the site, but all of a sudden now there is.

Safe standing will be ratio 1:1 so they can't even use that excuse.

That would be soo soo backward.

Why submit a costly application for 52k.. Only to go back with another render of 57k at big cost.

Just submit the 57k render!!
