I think some of those prefabs lasted until the early 1970’s.…..the only prefabs I remember were on Prescot St, opposite the previous Royal Hospital site. They were only supposed to be temporary after the WW2 blitz but were there until late 60s because I went past them on my walk to junior school. I think they were built with asbestos.
Fantastic park in its day - the beautiful Botanic Glasshouses demolished by Degsy Hatton because the orchid growers would not go on a one-day strike - H&S issue he chose to close & destroy the beautiful buildings ..... a travesty imo - he put the skilled staff from there on lawn mowers afterwards & the city council lost the Court case & rewarded them massive compensation ..... Rant over they began to rot was a load of Rollicks by the way -

I loved visiting that Botanic garden - as a budding young horticulturist -
It was originally just off Wavertree road pre war - with a pub on the corner named The Botanic Arms evidently an air raid destroyed it all - It was decided back then after the war to rebuild it in Calderstones park open for a small fee to the public - which was never allowed to increase - I have a coloured brochure hard back you could purchase on your visit there - it was the main attraction of the park .....

My library there, art deco building on left. As a kid got my Sexton Blake fix from there.
Broadway in Norris Green, looks between 30s and 50s. Wish we still had trams!

Those look like a later poorer cheaper version with a flat roof...and anything with a flat roof Is a leak waiting to happenI think some of those prefabs lasted until the early 1970’s.
My mate lived one and they weren’t fit to live in; full of damp and mould, so bad that the family got featured on the BBC Nationwide programme to highlight their plight.
Funnily enough, shortly after the broadcast, they were moved up to a new house on Everton Rd.
My old school....and the old Collegiate just out of shot on the left. I 'knew' the view, just couldn't place it

This is the only glass house that remains in Calderstones now (a photo I took during lockdown). Presumably it was restored at some point. I didn't remember that there was originally a series of glass houses there.Fantastic park in its day - the beautiful Botanic Glasshouses demolished by Degsy Hatton because the orchid growers would not go on a one-day strike - H&S issue he chose to close & destroy the beautiful buildings ..... a travesty imo - he put the skilled staff from there on lawn mowers afterwards & the city council lost the Court case & rewarded them massive compensation ..... It held famous families of plants collected from the Victorian era - the staff were so educated Horticultural wise every plant group were labled & descriptive it had a small conservortry entrance with lovely colourful displays encouraging you to pay to enter the many glasshouses that fed off left to right in a corridor of glasshouses itbwas also used by the RHS to enable practible exams to be carried out there which indeed I passed my first exam there ....This is the only glass house that remains in Calderstones now (a photo I took during lockdown).
