Best of what we have ATM .....We have Patterson starting for us right now.
….I thought Mills was good enough to be involved this season, Zat. I’ve posted about him for 2 years, he just looks right. I think it’s a really bad sign that he went on loan. I’ve always thought he’d make a terrific RB. We know his dad but his brother is one of the country’s top middle distance runners. He’s a terrific athlete and doesn’t lack for a bit of fire in his belly.
We have a low quality squad and he’s deemed not good enough now, I fear this season was his opportunity.
….it’s a matter of judgement and their’s counts. Posters on the youth team thread know how much I like Mills but ultimately it comes down to opinion of the two that matter. I accept that is how the game works.
To be fair, they see players in training every day and not many come back to haunt (Robinson perhaps and I like Gibson at Plymouth). The only chance Mills has is if he tears it up but we saw with Cannon and Liam Walsh that a very successful loan spell rarely means a change of mind at Everton.
The signs aren’t good for Mills as far as Everton is concerned.
Branthwaite went on loan and it was the best thing for him.
It will be the same for Stanley Mills, starting every week in a competitive league. He will be ready to compete in our squad next season
I see the likes of Garner, Dobbin and Patterson in/out with and used strangely by Dyche...Onana being misused and the only young player to benefit so far being Branthwaite who has been head and shoulders out best defender so Dyche cant leave him out.
So on the one hand I agree that it would have been best to have him used off the bench as an impact sub but on the other...perhaps Dyche could have set him back.
I think he seems to have done well so far on loan and when he returns he'll still only be 20.
If he could be a RB then end of the season Coleman moves to the coaching side and Mills is back as a backup.
Agreed.
….I suspect the Mills to RB ship has sailed, Zat. I don’t think Dyche is against playing youngsters, I think he has to deem them good enough as he has done with Branthwaite.
Sorry, Mills is a goal scoring attacker who’s just proved again he can score with both feet and can create goals for others . He’s never shown any defensive attributes to be a full back. Unsworth tried converting at least 5 youngsters to right back , all failed . Kyle John was about the closest while the converted Seb Quirk was possibly our worst right back ever at u21, he was going out the door until Tait moved him back to midfield, he started to shine again and at least now he’s making a living in League 2 , but we nearly ruined his career.I see the likes of Garner, Dobbin and Patterson in/out with and used strangely by Dyche...Onana being misused and the only young player to benefit so far being Branthwaite who has been head and shoulders out best defender so Dyche cant leave him out.

I noticed that Mills, Welch, Warrington, Leban are included in our u21s squad as part of the PL notifications . This may mean that they have January recall options, Harry Tyrer is not on the list suggesting he’s a full year loan. Just guessing of course but apart from Mills it would be hard to see any others being recalled early.
could Tyrer not be that he's now an over ager?I noticed that Mills, Welch, Warrington, Leban are included in our u21s squad as part of the PL notifications . …I think they can still play in U21 games. Can’t remember who it was but recall a loanee playing for the younger teams a while ago.
You might be right, I was really thinking about potential first team involvement, which would require the loan to be terminated in January in the way Simms’ was ladt Seadon.Aren't they classed as youth loans? i.e. they can still play for the U21's if we wanted them to even if they're loaned out.

I’m sure he’d be delighted with more top quality younger players. It appears Garner is behind the others in the queue for CM, I’m not really arguing with that opinion, although it might be worth shuffling the pack to find the right balance.
Or the alternatives are doing that badly he has no other choice but to play them.
