Homepage Article Rafael Benitez Appointed Everton Manager

Ah would you have rather him given some guff about him not meaning it, only joking, Everton has always been in his heart???

Let's get down to brass tacks here. ..... Was he wrong?!

Or let's put it another way - did you enjoy watching Everton park the bus and celebrate a draw against Liverpool?

Because he's clarified the context.....why were we playing for draws? The subsequent record against that lot suggests that he was right to rib us ......

Fans with absolutely no sense of direction are holding this club back. The celebration following the Derby win was embarrassing - it highlighted just how low we had gone in previous years

Not nice to read this is it. ... But it's true

I'm not massively one for vengence, but he should tell the truth and say it was a really stupid, ill informed comment, braindead comment.

Even if we take him at his word, if a football club, with the fraction of the resources of another football club away from home, they are going to set up defensively and be pleased if they go away from home and get a result. Christ Benitez, with one of the most expensively assembled squads in the world at Liverpool, used to go away from home in big games and do exactly the same thing. It's good management. It's what he did almost every week from memory at Newcastle, home and away.

As for celebrated a draw, can you tell me the game we "celebrated" a draw? I don't remember a single time. Albeit I haven't been going for the last 10 years or so, but I don't remember every celebrating a draw. I can imagine being satisfied at getting a decent point away, but we never "celebrated". It's complete un utter revisionism that.

Benitez by not addressing it has left an absolute rod for his back, as if we set up defensively now, with a far more expensively assembled squad, people are rightly going to call him out on it.

As a final point, why was celebrating winning a match, and a derby match at that embarrassing? Did you see the way Liverpool celebrated the last win at Anfield. They celebrated akin to when Alex Ferguson won the 1st league title at Manchester United in 27 years. Some of the idiots got tattoos of it! Why on earth would celebrating a win in a far more low key manner be "embarrassing" exactly?

It's not nice to read, as most of it is complete nonsense.

I mean he may not have said those exact words Mikey, but he did say he did it because he was 'fighting' for his team which he has done everywhere. Does that not insinuate similar?

It’s too vague imo and doesn’t convey what he needs it to convey in a strong enough tone

It’s eating his cake and having it too

His choice of course, but come that Derby at Anfield he’s made his own bed and even if we get a positive result, if we get it playing defensively then the articles practically write themselves

Have already mentioned it..
9th or 10th he can be booted.
8th OK... But I expect better than that..
Europe is very much possible. (I can see this happening for sure but if this doesn't happen then I expect him to leave if fans and board are not happy. If he wins a trophy can give him one more season)
Top 6 it is not easy, but not difficult.
Top 4 is difficult but not impossible..

Dare I say this.. TITLE... if there is any chance, then this is the season. Once you are in Europe it distracts the league form and vice-versa..

Give him some time...first few games are not a measure, players take a bit of time to get used to his methods. He normally turns around during mid-season...and ends the 2nd half of the season stronger as that is where most of the teams tire out due to Europe.

His rotation policy will make you go bonkers, but with no Europe, I don't expect much until hectic run in holiday time & when cup starts. But it works...

I'm neutral as of now... I'm pro Rafael but I can only defend as long as he allows me to.

His first title with Valecncia - Top Scorer was CDM - Baraja with 7 goals (51 Scored & 27 Conceded)
Valencia (C)38211255127+2475
His 2nd title with almost same squad - Mista was top socrer with 19 goals. & also won UEFA cup
Valencia (C)3823877127+4477

This is all past,
But still a strong defensive unit can win you trophies. For league you need fire power, where it guarantees win against bottom clubs.

You think he’ll be booted for finishing 9th or 10th?? LOOOOOOL that’s exactly what he’s been brought in for, that’s the best case scenario!

You can forget about the title straight off and last season would have been the one chance for that. This season Chelsea/City and them lot will be a lot stronger. 4th could be up for grabs if utd have a stinker.

That video on twitter to Mike Dullard is pure exploitation by the club.

As much as I dislike Benitez, he’s just been sat down in front of the cameras and told to pass a message on.

The club shouldn’t be using our disabled fans to try and gain support for a disliked manager.

As far as I’m concerned, by not really apologising or addressing the small club thing he’s shot himself in the foot

He either sets us up to be tight at the back to nick 1/3 points and have his own words thrown back at him for setting us up as a “small team”

Or he sets us up to be really attacking so no one can accuse him of it and we get skelped like we did under Martinez, making him look moronic and tactically destitute

Whereas if he’d just said “I was annoyed at the result and needed to keep Liverpool fans onside. It’s a perfectly valid tactic and I was wrong to make the comment” then it’s dealt with then and there

He’s made life harder for himself than he had to
If you were Klopp or OGS or Guardiola or Tuchel or whoever and we rock up and park the bus and we get a 0-0 or lose 1-0 to a late winner, it's an absolute no brainer to call us a small club now. The media will lap it up, their own fans will love it, we've set ourselves up for this crap. If the opposing manager doesn't say it a journalist will sooner or later.

Mad how this is the first time we’ve brought in a manager who has a similar style to his predecessor

Even madder that that’s just a coincidence n there’s 0 chance that’s why they hired him

Absolutely

The minute we sit back and defend at one of the top sides it's basically Benitez admitting that we're a small time, and that he by association is a small time manager

It's also a cause for worry IMO that he clearly isn't prepared to do the bare minimum to establish some kind of positive relationship with the fan base, as he's going to need the Goodison crowd if we're to turn around our poor home form

Man Utd are going to sign four or five top players. We have no chance of top 4. I don't think we'll get a sniff at top 6 and will do well to finish top half with this manager and this squad.

Yes, he was wrong. If you don't think so then I can tell why you're the type of supporter who is happy with this appointment.

If you don't think he is going to put this team out to secure a draw against better teams away then you're going to be very wrong.
So I repeat ...... When he is the manager of us and he is "fighting" his words not mine - other clubs...... Do you not expect him to be of a similar ilk???

After losing to Liverpool as Newcastle manager he was bitter and angry over the freekick that led to origi scoring.

Some kopite eh. No .... He's just a professional who wants to win.
